Make up in salons?

Anyone here had make-up done by a beauty salon before? I've just booked myself into a local salon to have my makeup done on the day of my wedding, but I don't really know what to expect. Will they expect me to take my own makeup or do they have their own (I don't actually own any makeup apart from nail polish - that's why I want it done at a salon!)

Any advice would be gratefully received, I don't want to turn up and find I've got it all wrong!

They'll have the make up. If they don't then they need shooting!!!! But if you are really worried about it - just ring and ask - or even better get someone else to then you won't feel like a ninny

I've never had it done, but what I would suggest is having a trial run a day or so before the wedding, then if you don't like it you'll have time to change it. Couldn't imagine anything worse than being made up like a clown and having to lump it 'cos there's no time left. Good luck

if its something they offer, its probably likely they've had experience of it...well you'd hope so
so i guess they'll know what they're doing

but yeah, as teresa said, a trial run would be a good idea

On my wedding day I had makeup done by a lady in my own house - the cost included a trial which she had come round and done on a previous occasion so that she could begin to match and make note of colours of my dress, bridesmaids dresses and flowers etc.

I had a free make-up session at the Lancome counter in Debenhams a while back. Even there the girl changed what I didn't like about the look and tried out a few different colours to see what suited me best. Just relax - it'll be fine. The customer is always right so you can boss her around

Before my wedding me and the two bridesmaids went to Allders and had a make over done on one of the make up counters. We then looked at what the lady had done and rather than rush about on the actual day of the wedding done our own make-up following the colours and style. Worked for us

Thanks for the advice - I've done what Teresa suggested and booked a trial run for the Thursday before, I don't want to look like Krusty the Clown in my wedding photos.

Jola - I've had that suggested to me before, the problem is that I literally *never* wear makeup (except nail polish), so I don't really even know how to apply it properly...I'm a sad apology for a girl really

Same here WH - I hardly wear make up but the lady at the counter took the time to explain - after I had the trial done I still had time to practise at home before the big day

Make sure they keep note of what they use on you and perhaps take a couple of piccies for reference for the big day

What kind of places offer to do makeup?

My mother really wants to be taught how to apply it properly but she doesnt want to go to a make up counter (she is really adament about this).

who else offers something like this?

Hmmmm I know that the Body Shop used to do Party Plan parties and they did make up on you or another company called Mary Kay (huge American franchise - bit like Avon) and they have make up classes - bit like party plan but they tell you how to cleanse, tone, moisturise, apply make up etc etc

I ha my wedding makeup done at a local hair salon that also offered beauty treatments - I think quite a few do. I even remembered enough about it to do a reasonable make up job myself the other day when we went out
