So here's the question do you lovery, helpful, gorgergous, funny people know of any other bands like VC or DV.
I think its time for some new music!
Ok i'm getting really bored with todays pop music. It all starting to sound the same. It's all so manufactured, even the rock bands are either playing a pumped up pop tune or some thrash which makes your ears bleed.
I been looking around for something different.
Bought Rasputina which i think I need to be in a really depressed mode to listen to. It's quite weird.
Got the Nerf Herder CD which I was expecting to be a lot harder rock that it was.
Tried Velvet Chain and thought it was brilliant just been to their website and ordered a couple more of the CD's.
Also tried Darling Violetta the Kill you EP which i loved the title track is so haunting.
Oh yeah also order the THC - George Sarah CD so i'll see what thats like when I get it.

i can't think of any off-hand at the mo.
But i know what you mean about Nerf Herder; even though i'm a big fan, at first when i bought one of their albums i'd expected it to be heavier, but now i love them all the same

A wise man once said "never discuss politics or religion at the dinner table." Maybe it's time we brought this motto up to date and make it slightly longer:
"Never discuss politics, religion, sport, music or films at the dinner table."
Everyone has their own idea of what is good or bad but for the record, I get quite depressed when I think that the majority of the Top 40 this year has been compiled by rap, r'n'b and drum'n'bass *stuff*. Even the boy- and girl-bands had some good tunes in them once. Now everyone and their record company is "rethinking" old classics and, as you say above, making brainless pop for braindead people.
Remaking a tune can be cool, when you change the format in an original way. But how many artists in the commercial charts are original?
The flipside to that is: how many people search out independant music? People seem to like only what is given to them.
Oh, this could so easily slip into a "society is basically lazy" rant, but I'll refrain for now!

*snigger* ... the above will be followed by those time honoured classics "Young people these days" and "I've lost a button off my cardigan"
Oh, go on I know you're quite capable of supporting your position and I'd like to hear it.

If people like what's given to them, why should they seek out more?
If youlike VC and Dv and i do,then you might like Kosheen, its alittle trance-er but has haunting lyrics and vocals, especially song hungry .
LOL

Seriously, if you think the charts are bad now, you only have to watch TOTP2 occasionally to realise that, with few exceptions, they've always been bad.
And I actually don't think it's all that helpful in a discussion like this to dismiss entire genres just because one doesn't personally like them. If you judge, for want of a better word, 'indie' music solely by what appears in the charts, you end up evaluating the whole lot to the standards of Stereophonics and Coldplay, and to that may I just say *yaaawn*
Phrased in those terms, it's quite a difficult one to argue. But you probably knew that.

Because it means taste is effectively dictated by a few record company executives, and the playlist choosers at Radio 1 and MTV? Because what is the most popular, or has the largest amount of money behind marketing it, is very rarely what is best?
Having been in a band, it's a rather depressing fact that when you're unknown, it's much easier (and better paid) to get gigs playing covers of well-known artists than it is playing your own material. People want to hear what they already know, and while that is their choice, I don't think it does a whole lot for the development of new and interesting music in the future...
Oh, and on a more positive note, the new Queens of the Stone Age album's pretty good.
Seconded. Good to hear Dave Grohl back on the drums aswell.
