had the minutes silence during Chem. I still find it hard to believe it actually happened, and like others i can still remember where i was and what i was doing when i found out.

People still died, no matter what you think of the events after and before, or what you think of 9/11 in terms of atrocity/diasater. Those people had loved ones who will be greiving and familys they left behind, and i think they are the people we should be thinking of, as well of those who rescued/were rescued and died.

Atrocity: a shockingly cruel act, especially an act of wanton violence against an enemy in wartime ...

extreme evil or cruelty
or
something repellent or extremely bad of its kind

Personally i think 9/11 counts as an atrocity. It was cruel. It was shocking. But thats just my view of course

I watched the documentries the other day, and some, in fact most of the stories were very touching.

I was going to say what I thought of Jango but this is a family friendly site. If you cant show any respect then why bother posting because no-one is interesting in pathetic, sad little individuals with no common decency.


Anyways, I missed the minutes silence but I'll join in if theres one at the match. I might go into Liverpool later to see the lights although I`ll probably be able to see them from home. It doesnt seem like a year, it's gone really quickly but it's still as upsetting

P.s I agree with Rae, IMO it was an atrocity.

Its probably a good job I didnt because I`d have been sobbing. I cant watch programmes about it I get too upset, its like Hillsborough I cant watch anything about that either.

The first thing I saw of 9/11 on TV was people jumping from the building and that was one of the most awful things I have ever seen in my life.

A Year after that sad day, I have seen some of the documentarys and have been quite touched by them, and I have shown my respect for what happened.

Respect to the New Yorkers for showing that they can carry on and not let the terrorists win.

It's wierd, September the 11th was a blur for me. I was at college, having fun, then I got home at about 6:00 and when I turn on the news I was hit by the flood of info. The Twin Towers/Pentagon/Terrorism... I honestly can't remember how I reacted, all I know is I watched the news for about 3hrs.

What I remember was the next day. The newspapers, walking into my JCR and being met by silence, my friend crying to me after a walk, another friend not able to contact relatives in the States who lived in New York (luckily they were okay). I forgot the silence I was coaching my year 7 form for football at 1:00 and I lost track of time, getting inrolled in the match. But I had a personal one on my own later.

I hope the families of those lost feel strong today

I haven't seen any of the documentaries, but i've been watching some of the coverage on the various news channels. It's so sad and so tragic. I was also affected by the sound of the single bell tolling as the names of the victims were read out, and watching the grieving relatives gathering at Ground Zero.. i hope that they may begin to find a little bit of peace within themselves now.

My uncle's childhood friend was a fireman in NYC. He was lost on 9/11.

I've been edgy all day-worrying that something else would happen and now some idiot is letting off fireworks where I live!

I was reading an article about the flight attendants on the planes who phoned to tell people on the ground what was happening.

Teresa: we did the silence in my infant class, although it was only 1 minute. Asking 5 year olds to be totally silent for a whole 60 seconds is tough! However I was pleased to say that after an assembly about it this morning they all new that we were thinking about out 'world family' and being thankful for our own families, which is the way the LEA suggested we tackle it. There was no details given so the children were not upset by it. I hope they did something similar in your son's school.

Its still shocking and numbing watching the documentaries being shown on tv. to seee first hand footage of the events unfloding is incredible and gives you a sense of what those people must have gone through. my admiration for the firecrews and other temas that were there, grows by the second.although horrific to watch,i'm glad there is evidence of this terrible event. my neice is only 3 years old and i have kept all the newspapers from last year between 12th and 18th sept. one day when shes old enough i want to show her these, so she can understand what happened that day. to often history gets blown under the carpet later on and things are forgotten. this should never be forgotten.One day 9/11 will be part of all history classes.
may those who suffered that horrible day be at peace-blessed be.

The firefighter documentary was awful to watch, yet I couldn't take my eyes off it. The worst part was the noise of the bodies hitting the pavement. Made me feel sick I'm not ashamed to say it made me cry as did other news items throughout the day.

Nothing to be ashamed of T. I was already emotional reading some of the follow-on stories in the paper. Its odd imagining those newborn babies who have already lost their fathers and there were 120 women pregnant when they lost their partners

Some people do tend to be more emotional than others about disasterous events, you imagine how you would feel in the same situation.

Watching the fireman docu was odd as each one of the guys return back to the station that day yet still felt guilty for getting out alive. The news hit home tonight by saying "that although its a memorial service for the lives lost - there was unfortunately very little coverage on the survivors"

Yeah I watched that documentry too. Thought the TV coverage yesterday was handled sensitively.

I watched tv specials tuesday night and most of yesterday. The tv was flooded with images of the towers falling again and again. I saw people reading out the names of the dead. I saw stories of families talking about their loved ones and how special they were. I turned the tv off each time i felt it was too much to deal with, but something always made me turn the turn the tv back on again later.

I can only imagine what it was like in NYC this time last year. Too many lives lost. Terrible, just terrible *sniff* Rest in peace.

Just thought I'd post again to add that Sept 11th saw the worst of humankind, but it also saw the best of humankind.

The Prime Minister (Jean Chretien) spent yesterday (morning at least) right here in Newfoundland to celebrate our contribution to help the plane people.

Thought you might like to know that something good came out of all this.

Persephone: my Uncle and Step-Aunt live in Newfoundland and i remember she told me about that day, and what they did to help (a lot of transatlantic flights were diverted there, someone didn't even know Newfoundland existed)

Today, naturally, the newspapers have covered yesterday's events quite extensively.. and one picture left me with a massive lump in my throat... it was a little boy, no more than five or six years old at one of the memorial services, proudly wearing his daddy's fireman's helmet...it literally brought tears to my eyes
