Me is all unexperienced, never had many jobs..(technically)

First job was for an ISP, one of those 'Momma and Poppa' two bit ISPs that sprung up back when the internet first started to really kick off in about '96..

Started out coding and ended up doing Helpdesk too. Loved the helpdesk stuff until the company started going out business and the service was going down hill big time. Then I had to kop flag from annoyed customers at an ever increasing rate. When I came in one morning and found half of the 14 employees had been sacked, I left. They paid me some tiny fee for my time there, but the cheque bounced...hah. So while I worked there for free essentially, I got a ton load of experience with the internet and networks..

Now I work as a computer consultant, and absolutely hate it. Trying to get out right now. So while ive had the same job for the last five years i've actually worked for a multitude of different companies. Some good, some bad, and some very very bad

my first 'job' was when i was eleven, and used to help the milkman with his deliveries on saturdays - used to get £3. lol

My first actual job was in McDonalds in Fulham, where i got up to the level of floor manager. Worked with a great bunch of people there

Loved my last job - managing a computer games store - was really relaxed and loads of fun but , alas, was made redundant last year when it closed

Am now working in the ticket office for London Underground, based between Earls Court and Wimbledon Park. Money and holidays are fab, and the people i work with are cool! the only problem is the passengers

I got my first job while at college, me and my best mate used to stuff envelopes. We got the sack after 2 weeks though cause we basically turned up when we felt like it

When I moved onto my second college I got a job in a bar and started the day after my 18 birthday After that I worked as a Dental Nurse for about 4 years before going into office based work. My best job so far would have to be Disneyland Paris met some great mates and a had a brilliant laugh, only prob was the money and unsociable hours Saying that I love working were I am now at B.T.

First job?
Well, my first 'proper' full time job was a mix of sales and admin for a dodgy second hand computer company. It sucked and I lasted 3 months.
Although my first full time pay check was as the General Secretary at the University of Northumbria Student Union. It sucked and I lasted about six months.
My first regular pay check was when I worked for a really cool pub in Leeds (The Eagle Tavern) when I was resitting my a-levels. That was actually quite cool, although a little unsociable, and taking orders when the bands were playing was a nightmare.
However, my first source of income was when me and a couple of mates set up our own Play by Mail fantasy game. Now that was really cool!

Best job? Most of them sucked. This one wasn't too bad at first, but has rapidly gone down hill. Working at the Eagle was fun, but that could be a case of rose-tinted memory. The PbM probably was the most fun and something I'm the most proud of.

My first job was breaksfast waitress and chambermaid.

I hated the chambermaid bit and would never do it again ...... really hard slog work and working on your own which i hated. The only good thing about it was you could watch TV while you were doing it

As for the the breakfast waitress, well i hated the early mornings but obviously liked it enough as im still in catering. I'm a restaurant manager now and love it (well most of the time ....... life would be much easier without the customoers though )

My best job (apart from what I do now) was working for a University College doing the timetables. More interesting than you'd think, actually.

Cool job, nearly did that one myself as a graduate trainee registry assistant, should have done it as I could have stayed in the same place I was graduate trainee library assistant, same studnet union to leave at 3 in the morning, stagger back to someones halls (a friend) then go to work at 9 am.

Jayjay, were you at northumbria or just worked for them. I assume a general secretary is what some places call a permanent secretary, how come only 6 months the ones I know have been in post for 30 years or so already.

My first job was my brothers paperround which I inherited fom him when I was 9, I added my own to it to double the size of the route when I was 11, still made the walk easier though longer.

My second job running with my first job was in an off license Video library, I was 13 inherited it from my brother and I sold alchol, what does the law matter.

I was at the University of Northumbria at Newcastle, and was elected to the full-time sabatical position of General Secretary. Which meant chairing a lot of meetings and taking minutes. As well as involvement in political campaigns.

In theory I was elected for one year (by around 2000 people if I remember correctly - pathetic when you look at that as a percentage of students, but actually quite a large vote in practice). However, due to a very personal feud, some political in-fighting and martyrdom, and an eventual giving up on my part as I was not doing the things I was elected for, just continually fighting with supposed allies (both extreme right and left of the Labour party) and justifying myself in meetings as part of a personal vendetta against me, I was no confidenced in an EGM. By 400 people (and a majority of about 50).

Me? Bitter? Much?

Just got my first paid job last Saturday My friend dragged me along because I'm too shy to ring up myself and I was just like 'hi! can I have a job!' (literally) and got one Very lucky. It's just cleaning chalets at a Country Club type place, but it's really easy and we spend most of the time sitting on our butts watching TV It's really pretty there too and the pay's not bad for my age. The best part is that I can borrow money from mother with the line 'I'll pay you back when I get paid!' (well...I will....). I'm really chuffed

My first job was waitress in a small coffee shop. That was okay but everytime I dropped a cup the boss took it out of my wages. I was so clumsy I had to leave as was barely breaking even on my bus fares!

My worst job was working in a card factory. I was at 6th form and I needed a holiday job. I was desperate for a 'new image' and needed the cash to fund such a drastic change.

I had to work in this huge room all alone with 3 pallets. The one in the middle was stacked way up with cards and the one on each side of that was empty. I had to climb up a stepladder to reach the cards and if they were plain I had to restack them on the pallet on the left, and if they were printed on I had to restack them on the pallet on the right. That was it. When I'd finished one lot they'd bring me in another.

I lasted about 4 days. As for the new image, I had enough money to buy a new bag and have my ear pierced again.

Oh no wait - I've thought of another worst job! I had to file those yellow carbon copies you get on invoices. In the morning I had to sort them into numerical order (customer numbers) then after lunch I'd have to file them in this huge room of filing cabinets. It played havoc with my cuticles. My nails were terrible for weeks after I quit.

My best job is probably the one I have now. Especially the times when I help out the consultants for the LEA. Helping teachers to be better informed and more confident in their subject areas is pretty cool, if not nerve-racking for someone like me who is younger than most of the people I trained!! I once had to deliver a seminar on yet another new government pilot scheme and who should walk in... my old primary school teacher!! She folded her arms and stared at me the whole way through. What a cow.
