OK, this is really freaky. I didn't feel anything, but my colleagues here at work (in Reading) felt the building shake, as did a mate's mate in Tilehurst. I thought they were having a laugh until I read this...

Woah!!
I totally missed this (apperently it woke up some work colleagues so the shockwaves definately made it this far north). wierd!

That'll be why I didn't find a thread on T21 when I was trying to work out why my bed shook at 01.55

Well the earth didn't move for me in Cambridge last night.....
The epicentre was in Dudley, and i still slept through it. Seems to have scared several folks i work with, but i must be quite a sound sleeper
it didn't reach as far as me. this might be the dumb question but is 4 point something big? i know i did this in geography sometime but can't remember a thing :S
As far as the UK goes, yes (because we don't get many and they're usually v v small) but, if you told someone in California, they'd probably laugh at you because it's pretty small in global terms.

This scared the hell outta me I was convinced that there was either someone in my bedroom or it was a ghost. I stayed awake for hours afterwards to scared to fall asleep it never crossed my mind that it was an earthquake
Am totally shattered today!! Still thats what I get for being a scardy cat!

I had a dream where I was on this boat and it was shaking before I woke up with a sore neck and back for some reason. No-one in my house including the dog felt it but my dad also complained of a stiff neck!
Firstly:
I was awake last night when it happened and it was really wierd, but not at all scary *shrug* I texted T and she admitted to me this afternoon that she thought I was on drugs or I'd fallen out of bed until she saw the news this morning! lol
Of course you're a heavy sleeper - you can sleep through Dan's snoring!!

We felt it!
It 'sounded' like a big empty lorry going by, but you could feel it too... very weird. Just like I would have imagined an earthquake would feel like.
I have to say I considered it being an earthquake and then totally dismissed it... "naa it can't have been, we don't get them here..." type thing. So chuffed that I've felt a real earthquake though! Makes you glad that you don't live on a fault line though.
It made a nice story for me to tell the children today at registration though. Someone asked me what causes an earthquake, and the other children's suggestions ranged from "The Earth is so powerful it is stretching its muscles." to a much more realistic "The rocks are cracking open underneath the grass."
