Terrified about University...

Ok, so I'm probably feeling the same as the majority of students who are going to uni soon or have just started. I was sitting at hom the other night, and I suddenly had this massive panic about uni and I realised how scared I was.

I have never been the most talkative of people and have been known to have problems with self esteem and I have been having visions of myself being the sad muppett that sits in their room all day! It doesn't help that my dad seems to think that that is exactly what I'm going to be like.

I'm also absolutely useless at anything domesticated and have no sense of direction. How the hell am I going to be able to find everything and do everything that I am supposed to?? I am going to be the worst student ever

I'm missing my mate already who went to uni this weekend. I'm terrified that she is going to forget about me. Shes the best friend that I have ever had

/me is beginning to think I am sounding silly now

Anyone got any advice before I panic even more ??

Things not to do in Freshers week:

1)
Do not go out with the first girl (or in peoples cases boy) you meet.
Had a great Freshers week, had a girlfriend for it

,did not meet many people beyond that. Now it is chaos I don't know what is going on, and have not met nearly anyone.

2) Do not become a hall warden however much they beg, need to go out get plastered and meet people yet, can't meet the few people I have met so far and want to meet up with me so now I am drinking alone in room ready to evacute the building if the fire alarms go off, cant leave, trashing room.

3 Clubs and societies are the key, though in my case I had to leave a group of people I was getting on really well with at 5.30 on Wednesday, could not see them friday and may be on duty all week if they can't find someone else.

1994, that was my first time round at university, I just got power hungry and set about winning student elections that time, beoming a leader of a student campus party and joing the students union commitee system at the freshers fair did not help, so everyone I met was a hack

4 do not become soly a political hack, the students union may be a fun thing to tinker with, but if you need close friends remember the people you will be around with a couple of exceptions may not be the type of people who you can make close friendships with, particulary if you have to argue against them in committees

It was not till my second time round in 2000 that I made two of the closest friends in my life, though things have been strained with one after I left. That was despite being university staff and they were undergraduates.

That is why I am confused now as I am again a student, I have only got close to one person, done more than friendship, yet I seem to be in a worse at making close friends than when I was staff.

Seconded in a big way! My greatest regret about uni is becoming a Union hack, it led to a lot of hassle, a lot of gossip being spread about me, and to me not making any close friends in my time there

One of my biggest regrets in life is not having uni friends I still keep in touch with, when everyone else I know seems to.

OOOh and I thought of something else that you *really* shouldn't do when you start Uni... Don't snog one of your lecturers the day before you start their course

And one other thing you *really* shouldn't do Sydney involves someone's car outside said house party with an audience watching.
