A ball and they're only letting one person go? that's a bit silly, have you talked to them about it? Maybe they've made a mistake?

It's just not fair! (girlie sulk alert)
I received an invitation to the Breakthrough Annual Ball this morning because of the fundraising I do for them (raffle tickets, events etc) - which is cool! 
The problem is that its in London and the invitation is for me only, not me + a guest.
I just don't think I could go to London on my own to something like that to a city I don't really know, to a place I've never been to spend an evening with people I've never met.
I so chuffed to have been invited though, but *majorly* disappointed that I would have to go alone.
Just thought I'd share my sulk with you!

I'd agree with Stoo on that one - surely if you gave them a call and explained how you'd love to go but chaperoned then they'll probably tell you its ok to bring someone with you

unfortunately no - this is what it says:
Admission by invitation only. We regret that we are not able to extend the invitation to partners, however we will keep a reserve list and will contact you if there are spare places.
But that means I'll have to say I'm going before they will put me on the list for a guest *should* there be any places left which I'm not hopeful about.

However there may well be a lot of peeps who won't go a) because it's in London and to far for them to travel or b) because they can't take a partner...might be worth putting your name down to say you're interested...if you can't take a partner then don't go...not you;re fault if you develop a sudden tummy bug

I'd say go with Milky's suggestion and tell them to notify you if there are any spaces then pull a sickie more towards the time if there isnt (and when you do more work next time put VG's or Mon's name too i know they help out a lot)

either that or nearer the time comes and you havent been able to secure an invite for a partner/chaperone...then pull out telling them honestly and exactly why your doing so. The whole going on your own thing sucks....maybe they want you to mingle with other fundraisers,but its always nice to have at least one familiar face, especially in a place you dont know. Seems they dont want any extra costs on their hands to finance extra places.
