Music is a big part of me. I'll happily listen to music before watching a film these days. But I'm into a lot of stuff, although slightly edging towards the heavier material. (And yes Avril Lavigne is good )

Speaking of which I'm looking very much forward to the new Foo Fighter album..

UK music is crap, for any tallent you have to look to the american bands right now.

and i can teach myself to play most instruments Spike. and i was a whizz on the recorder in school!

Music's very important to me - quite often it's about the only thing (moreso than people) that can affect or change my moods as I want it to. That in itself makes it a pretty big thing for me.

If you want a surefire way to annoy me, put Britney in $60 Volcom Skate Pants and a shirt with a violently fasionable skate label, give her a band of ten year old Sum 41 rejects and have her call herself "punk rock". You'll get Avril Lavigne.

I think Avril Lavigne is excellent and think her album is great. And, no, I'm not just saying that 'coz she's attractive.

Did nobody hear Avril Lavigne on Tops of the Pops? She can't sing and shouldn't try (not that I can sing, but I'm not trying ). She really needs to change her outfit every once in a while too. She's the kind of music I really hate: pop pretending to be something else. Having said that, I didn't mind the song until I heard it live.

I'm really into pop at the moment. It's weird, I used to hate it. I guess I'm just getting bored of all the other stuff that's becoming more and more mainstream and samey. I still like it, but with all the teenyboppers suddenly thinking it's cool to be 'alternative', it makes it really hard to find anything that doesn't sound exactly the same. There are exceptions and I love those. But pop that doesn't pretend to be anything but pop, is getting to be one of my favourite things at the moment. The Foo Fighters and Eels have been my favourite things for years and recently the Strokes have made their way up there too

got to say i'm not enjoying the whole avril lavigne band wagon thing. everytime i like an artist it all goes all band wagon-y jumping. i got her and vanessa carltons albums months ago before anyone knew of them and now this ahh! the same thing is happening to norah jones too. sorry i just like it when its small groups of people liking stuff.

Sorry, but isn't that a little bit selfish? Surely if music is good, everyone deserves to hear it. It's when music's popularity starts to ruin it (ie. it just becomes boring) that it's a problem.

Lori nods in agreement. There is some good music around at the moment though... mind you, I'm feeling a tad embarrassed for liking the new Justin Timberlake song. Should I feel ashamed or does anyone else who hated N*Sync also find this kinda catchy?

Must admit, teen bands (and i use that term loosely) such as Busted annoy me intensley. And i'm sick to the back teeth of the Avril Lavigne video.. the other day it was on three of the music channels at the same time!!.. I'm not a big fan, i look at her and think she wouldn't be too out of place on the set of Buffy, she looks like a grunged-up Michelle Trachtenberg.

I go through phases of listening to a lot of music, and then not listening to music (like now). Though Hannah is starting to get into stuff, she likes the Chilli's, Foo Fighters, Puddle of Mudd (she loves the videos) but she's absolutley entranced by Justin Timberlake... and she's only not quite 20 months old!!.

But i'm getting quite excited, as Matchbox Twenty have a new CD out here on November 18th, and their new single "Disease" is brilliant (hoping it'll get airplay here in the UK, but am not holding my breath).

The music i'm into doesn't seem to coincide with whats particularly popular, so i don't listen to Radio 1 or music channels. Hence i've only heard that Avril Lavigne song a couple of times, and thought it was ok if nothing special.

Singer-songwriters, country type stuff, older artists and random stuff are what i tend to listen to. I was reading to renaissance music on an internet radio station recently, which was interesting and not my normal style. We went to see McAlmont and Butler the other week and they were so good live. I can't play any instruments, but i will sing along to anything i know all the time

I love music, in so many forms from sleaze metal to high-brow jazz to R'n'B.

Pop music is fun too, it's like the McDonalds of music, it'll do for a Saturday lunch but sooner or later your gonna crave some "real" food

Avril's typical pop music imo, whether the tune comes from distorted guitars or a keyboard the chord progression and song structure make it pop. I have no problem with that, what I think is a little odd is when folks try to maintain any of it is anything else.

Nope, i'm the same. What annoys me is that she has that guitar in the video except she doesn't need it for the song, it's just for show! A musical instrument is too precious for just show (That's Jaine Sense )

Anyway, music is a very big part of me: i'm quite a musical person. I can play quite a range of instruments and at school what type of music you listen to seems to define who you are (which i both agree and disagree with)

I like a range of alternative music really: but it has to be quite musical. I don't find Soil particulary musical and i'm not keen on them. I like Ozzy Osbourne - i have to admit, i prefer his solo stuff rather than Black Sabbath. i'll listen to Bowling For Soup (even though recently, people have critised them for being manufactured, yet the didn't when they started out 8 years ago) i'll also listen to some goth, rasputina i really like and then there's Killing Miranda But i'll listen to the older stuff like the Ramones and Led Zepplin

I do prefer to listen to unknown bands (Gash, 4ft Fingers, Vanilla Pod, Worm, etc) which no-one has heard of cause i think it's really important sometimes to hear what else is there rather than what the radio stations just play - especially because some of it is a lot better! However, bands who used to be unknown and i was one of very few who liked them like Bowling For Soup, are now all known and people even know lyrics they're mine

I know what you mean it gets hard to get tickets for there gigs once they are big.

BTW Vanessa Carltons album is excellent dont you think.

I love Avril. I heard her stuff when I was in America earlier this year. I think she's great. I don't care if she can sing well or not IMO because she is quite talented and she writes her own stuff and she has been trying to be heard mainstream.

Well said. I could care less what her image is or what message she is trying to get across or if she has trouble singing live (Top Of the Pops?? Hardly an ideal setting for a live performance!). I like her music because I do. I don't question *everything* I enjoy. Somethings I enjoy for the sake of enjoying it and forget about everything else for a while! So she's Britney in "Sk8er" gear! So?
