Are you sure though that you want a left handed one? I'm left handed and i play right-handed. Personally, i feel like right handed is much easier because my stronger hand, is my left and that's the one having to hold down the strings. Also, left handed are more difficult to come by and i've noticed (in basses anyway) that they tedn to be more expensive

As far as advice, I'm sure MonSTeR can help you out better than I can. My approach has always just been to go to a guitar shop, try out all the ones I can afford, and buy the one I like best. Obviously this might be a problem if you can't yet play..

Well imho, the best steel string acoustic guitar for a beginner is a Taylor 912C.

It's also the best acoustic guitar that you can buy at all off the shelf anyway

Unfortunately it's the best part of £3000.


They do make a "Baby Taylor" and "Big Baby Taylor" that are just a few hundred pounds but still have the quality that makes Taylor world reknowned. (everyone from President Clinton to Steve Vai plays Taylor acoustics)

There are many fine makes though, Yamaha have always made good acoustics, Ibanez make some great beginner instruments. But Dan's right, just try a few out within your budget and come home with the one you like best.

I went into a guitar shop not dso long ago and tried out both right and left handed guitars, and found that I automatically held it left handed, so I think I'm going to find a left handed one more comfortable. I'm going into town at the weekend to see what I can find...I'll let you know what I decide on

That link takes me to a 12 string guitar.

Personally I'd avoid getting a 12 stringer till you're happy with a 6 string. THey're incredibly difficult to keep in tune with themselves because the strings are doubled and have to be tuned to each other at the same note.

If they do a 6 string version of that guitar I don't think you'll go wrong.

I put a deposit down on a guitar today !!!

Its a Westfield B200 (I think!) and its the trans red version. I managed to get it left handed for £95 so I was dead chuffed. Should be able to pick it up on Friday
