I'm sorry, I don't mean to slag her off, I just really don't like her. Of course, it's all a matter of taste, and it's up to you if you like her. But I just can't stand the way she pretends to be more than pop because she really isn't. She's pretty much cashing in on the whole 'it's cool to be alternative' thing without being too threatening and is really easy to look at as well (hey! she is insanely pretty!) so she appeals to kids who want to be cool and alternative, but don't really like the hardcore stuff. And I really don't like the way that she implies that being conventional is always wrong and that all people who follow fashion and are 'preppy' look down on those who don't, when she's the one being prejudice. I don't like the implication that preppy girls will end up as baby machines and I don't like the way she pretends to not conform when she couldn't be anymore normal. She's got popular by being safe.

And from my point of view, I like her because I feel she is doing what she wants to do. Also I'm as people say "a rock chick" but I don't mind her. I am into hardcore stuff, eg Hole, Foo Fighters, Tenacious D, Bon Jovi, Green Day, Adema, Hoobastank etc but I have my soft side such as Avril.

Well that's the first time I've ever hears Bon Jovi be referred to as hardcore. In the 80s they were the equivalent of Avril today, the popified chart version of what folks regarded as the "proper" rock music back them.

There's no harm in any of it, it's all music. Some of the folks who'd like to call themselves purists will tell you she's just Britney Spears in baggy pants with a skateboard. Others will tell you she's a hardcore rock chick.

Some will tell you she writes her own songs, others will say she merely sits in the same room as and talks to a team of professional songwriters about her views on skateboards and cute guys.

Whatever your views on Avril, there's sure to be a lot of her stuff played at the T-Party, she's the most requested artist so far !!!

It is, but mainly from the fact that it is 'normal' to be a townie/scally. Don't get me wrong I've known loads of people who wear trackies and listen to dance music but I wouldn' define them as townies. A townie is someone who looks down on anyone who is different (although there are plenty of goths like that) They've been having a go at alternative people for years, is it any wonder we want revenge?

So she's not getting any of the money and just doing it for the music? And yes, if someone told me I'd could be a manufactured 'rock' star (I'm not saying she completely is, but i would be!) I'd take it. I need the money for a start

Nothing wrong with whoever produces whatever music (I like Bon Jovi as well as the Foos) as long as you like it does it matter what anybody else thinks.

Avril covering Chop Suey?!?! Woah, weird!

Could somebody please, please tell me how to get hold of a recording of that? I've got to hear it, just to see what the hell it sounds like!

Hah, it'd really take the biscuit if she covered Chic 'n' Stu off the new album...

Well, I had a quick look on Google and couldn't find anything but that's not to say that there's not a bootleg copy out there somewhere. I guess there's always the chance she'll release it as a 'B side' track on any new singles. 'Sk8er Boi' comes out on December 16th but I doubt it'll be on that.

I get the impression the band were looking for something to end the show with (out of a choice of a few they had in mind) but hadn't decided at that point. And, while the tech crew were sorting out a problem with a guitar, Avril was whispering in the ears of both her guitarists which seemed to suggest that they decided there and then to do 'Chop Suey'. That, and the fact that one of the band said 'Let's see if I can remember how to play this'.

It certainly was different. Bit weird at first hearing a female vocal screaming out the lyrics but it did work. can't really explain it better. but it was a great way to end off the night

Yeah, admittedly, after listening to the 44 seconds of it there (pity the whole song ain't there), it ain't brilliant (it sounded better being there in person) but it really isn't the sort of song that best suits her vocal range really.
