Tecchie Help Needed - "Safe Mode"
Ok I'll try and explain as best I can.....
Len's laptop has gone into Safe Mode and no matter what we try and do we can't get rid of it
He tried installing some hardware and when his laptop came up with "restart the computer" it shut down and re-started in safe mode *eek*
We can't find the hardware on the laptop at all and the troubleshooter doesn't help us with the problem.
We've tried doing a system restore to an earlier date and this doesn't help either.
What can we do?????? Len is on the verge of smashing up the computer He uses Windows ME on the laptop.
Any ideas?

When you boot the computer there's a button you can press to stop Windows loading (on mine it's F8).
It gives you a set of options and one of them (probably the first) should be 'Normal Mode', or something like that. If you select that one then Windows should start normally.
I don't know if it will solve the problem, but it's the best I can think of

Nope - done that and that didn't help either Thanks anyway hun *sigh*
I've got a couple of options that I'll try tomorrow so *fingers crossed* it will work but any more ideas will be appreciated

Whatever hardware Len installed before it went into Safe Mode needs to be uninstalled..that'll probably get it to work...theres probably a driver conflict making the pc start in safe mode.

Ok so you all know I am so not technical but........
I have windows ME and had a problem I kept getting safe mode , one of the options I got was to do a system restore , basicaly you take it back to a different date , it doesnt get rid of things that are in your docs etc but will get rid of newly installed programs and stuff
Any good?
ok saw you said you did that , but I did too and it didn't work I just tried again using earlier dates, I think in the end I went back to August before it actually worked

Posted: 08:23 Dec 03 2002 I meant physically uninstall it..take it out of the pc again. Once you do that the conflict should be resolved..what was he adding anyway?

Well the hardware wan't actually plugged into the computer when we tried sorting out the problem (it was an external cd writer) but............ somehow by the time I got in from work today the problem resolved itself
