Ouch! Not nice!

But, talking of shocks, I got one this morning in the shape of my electricity bill. Now, I've been in my flat for almost 18 months and all the previous quarterly bills have been around the £22/23 mark except this time last year when it was about£50 because of the cold weather, obviously.

Thing is, all thos previous bills had been based on estimated meter readings. The bill I received this morning was based on an *actual* reading. And the bill was just under £100

To say I was shocked was an understatement! But I am gonna check the meter myself shortly to make sure they haven't misread it 'coz I can't believe I've used *that* much electricity!!

Technically I haven't had a correct electricity bill for a whole year - when I changed across to a new supplier (much against my better judgement) instead of the first bill being for the average £70 a quarter it was listed at £250 because they hadn't taken the correct first meter reading on changeover.

Needless to say I refused to pay the bill and asked for them to correct it which they promised it would be on the 2nd quarter..... *that* bill was for £500+ so I rung again and insisted they scrap all the bills so far and redo it on the correct first meter reading.... well its now the 4th quarter and I haven't even received a bill yet!!

It should be worth a few more irate phonecalls

We just moved recently and needed final bills in order to get our deposit back off the rental agency, but British Gas sent an estimated one for our electricity and they wouldn't accept it. Once I got it sorted (and it took a while!), we got a revised final bill of £145 as they'd been under estimating our usage for over a year! If they'd sent me something to say "can we have a meter reading please?", I would have done it, but I never remembered.

The phone bill sounds nasty, Stoo. I dread to think what the total was if some calls were £20. Why did you want to move from Orange though? Everyone I know who is on Orange has no complaints, but there are loads of moans about the other networks. Just curious...

Whistler I had that in my old flat and it worked out that my electric tariffs were running the other way around - somehow my meter went belly up.

I got in touch with the company and they sorted it out and I had a nice refund in the end

They didn't have the phone I wanted, and I wanted a different tariff, yeah I could have done the ovp thing, but they basically lied to me about the availability of the phone and stuff I wanted, so off I went to t-mobile

My phone bills have been ok so far, never strayed much over my inclusive stuff (yay O2)

Mum and dad got ripped off by the gas company a while ago and they're getting money back on it each bill so its all spread out and its just tiny bills at the moment

I kinda like it's spartan looks, and what use is having a bluetooth phone if you haven't got anything else bluetooth?

My boyfriend got a free bluetooth headset when he upgraded with Orange... I just borrow it occasionally
