First thought was "hacked"

Second thought was "What a naff idea"

Clicked on it and got dumped into TParty thread, then had to navigate back to general chat just to see what was new in there.

Third and final thought "What a lot of effort just to see that nothing interesting had been posted."

Own up, who's idea was it?

I realize first impressions aren't everything, but wtf is up with the "ransom note"???

I was watching the news and when I turned back and looked at my computer screen I thought the site had disappeared! scare me much grrrrrr

Someone had too much when they created that page.

It was all the staff's idea to have a bit of fun to do some last minute promoting of the T Party.

Guess you can't please all of the people.

Well..... it was a bit naff

No, you shouldn't be worried. But, to be honest, I'm a little disappointed that something that was meant to be a light-hearted attempt to promote our annual party is causing such negative feeling. It's not going to be there for long because it's only just over a month away.

But, heck, what do we know? We only work here.

All you have to do is either reload the page, or click the "I already did" text at the bottom.. Not exactly hard work...

It would be better if we only got this once but I'm getting it everytime I log in. I'm like "YES!!!!! I have a bloody ticket!!!" And also if we have to pay for our tickets then surely they're not complimentary *picky*

I'd just like to say that I did appreciate the effort that went into it, and thought it was very funny. Cool idea, and something different.

Put me down in the 'not amused, not impressed' camp too. I'm not going to the fragging party, alright?

There used to be quite strenuous efforts made to ensure that people who wouldn't / couldn't / didn't go to meets weren't left feeling like second class members. When did you decide to change the policy and rub their noses in it instead?

That's a bit harsh, don't you think? We are not rubbing anyone's 'noses in it' as you put it. We have gone out of our way to make every member on this site feel a part of it. And we are always racking our brains in staff meetings on how to make people not feel isolated and be more inclusive.

However, the site party has always been a big part of BuffyUK/Tangent21 and we will always make a big thing out of it. Some people will never go to it and sometimes, people who want to go won't beable to for various reasons. Unfortunately, that can't be help.

But, I think I speak for all the staff when I say that to accuse us of treating its membership as 'second class' is grossly unfair.

I imagine It could be kind of puzzling/worrying if you bookmarked GC rather than the front page so you didnt see the proper site before the note (hint, bookmark the FRONT page)

Its not exactly a long term thing, and just a fun way of getting the numerous people who ARE going, but 'just havent got round to it yet', to get a move on, as its only a month away!

We wanted something a bit more offbeat than just badgering people, and we came up with this.

When it got to the room-booking deadline and only a few weeks to go, and most of the people that said they were interested in going haven't responded.

It takes a lot of time and effort to put these things together, and to minimise the stress on the people organising it we wanted to make sure that everything was being done well in advance, rather than a rushed last-minute affair.

We *never* treat some members better than others, everyone plays by the same rules. We thought that putting a few reminders on the site would be preferable to "spamming" people's inboxes.

Obviously we'd much prefer that everyone could make it, but the best laid plans and all that, there certainly was never any intention of "rubbing people's noses in it" or the like.

After spending a number of hours putting the design together I thought the humour would show through, obviously I was wrong.

The design and concept of the idea was a good one - but i feel it can be a bit off putting of sorts. I can see it being done in good humour and all that but it does seem "In your face" so to speak

I thought I'd clicked on a wrong link or something, but then I noticed the ticket thing at the bottom.

It just made me laugh

Well i thought it was great, and especially so being one of the stragglers who hasn't bought my ticket. Emails are so easy to ignore/forget about etc so, good on ya
