I had that problem last night, but at the moment everything seems fine *fingers crossed*
Running Slow?
Is the site running slow for everyone else or is it just me? Normally it goes pretty quick but today it just seems sluggish. I'm not having any problems with any other sites btw.

Seems okay for me at work
Yeah, our host went down completely last night, but it's back now (obviously!) although the network it's on does seem a little sluggish.. Not an awful lot we can do about it though.
Also bear in mind that t21 runs on a virtual server, that is to say we share the actual machine the server runs on with other websites, so if they're really busy, it could well slow T21 down too (Although we've really not seen that at all so far).

On a virtual server? I'm somewhat surprised since you run an IRC server as well.
Also the IP address takes you directly to t21 rather than the hosting companies webpages. Usually, indicative of a dedicated server not a virtual server. Regardless, having it setup like that must be costing a fortune.

Bob: No a virtual server is exactly what we have, what you are talking about is just web-page hosting, more info here
..and yes, it is quite expensive, but it's a whole lot cheaper than a pure dedicated server setup

so how many 'virtual servers' do they run out of each box? the memory and processor overheads would be quite large, i'd imagine.
I did ask that same question when we first contacted them, but basically they're pretty huge machines and well capable of running several servers out of one box (I'll try and find the email later)

That should answer everything

1. Are there any specific limitations in terms of software that we can run on the server? (PHP4, Perl, IRC, mail etc)
No, there are no limitations, it functions exactly like a dedicated server. You can run any legally licensed software that you want.
2. What spec is the machine that the virtual servers run on?
Multi-processor, 4GB RAM, Multiple 10K RPM SCSI hard drives in a RAID array.
3. How many virtual servers per host machine?
No more than 4 per CPU.

offcourse DOSing irc servers usually only happens to the public servers of the big networks, not private stand-alone ones.
I don't know what the other users of 'our' cpu are doing, but it doesn't seem to be much
