Ok odd.
Shuttle crash is God's punishment, says Ha
from NTL news
Muslim cleric Abu Hamza says the US shuttle disaster shows the mission was a 'Trinity of Evil' punished with death by Allah.
Mr Hamza made the claim because the Columbia carried Americans, Israeli Ilan Ramon and Kalpana Chawla, an Indian-born Hindu.
He says British Muslims would take the shuttle disaster as a "sign from God" that the first Israeli in space was killed over an area of Texas called Palestine.
The cleric, who until recently preached at Finsbury Park mosque in north London, is now banned from preaching there because of his inflammatory sermons.
He added: "The Muslim people see these pilots as criminals. By going into space they would have sharpened the accuracy of their bombs through satellites.
"These missions would increase the number of satellites for military purposes. It would increase the slavery of governance of other countries by America. It is a punishment from God.
"Muslims see it that way. It is a trinity of evil because it carried Americans, an Israeli and a Hindu, a trinity of evil against Islam."
Mr Hamza, originally from Egypt, has been criticised for his radical brand of Islam from all sides, including the Muslim community in Britain.
Meanwhile, Anjem Choudray, UK leader of Al-Muhajiroun, the radical group which wants to turn Britain into an Islamic country, said Muslims "would not be shedding any tears" over the accident which claimed seven lives.
Mr Choudray, from Ilford, east London, says the Muslim community in the UK is saying the disaster is evidence of the work of God.

To be honest, the only part of this which surprised me was him describing Hindus as part of his trinity of evil. Otherwise, it just reinforces my conclusion that religious extremists of any kind scare the Hell out of me.
Well I guess everyone is entitled to their own beliefs.
Although technically shuttle travel could be rated safer than flying.

OK maybe not safer than flying so much. But I was reading somewhere about the odds so far on crashes (really need to find that to back myself up)
Something about only losing 14 people in 113 missions I think

Assuming there were about 7 people on each these shuttles. That would equate to about a 1 in 50 chance of dying. Wouldn't get on a plane if they were the odds...
Me either!!And I can't recall the last time a passenger jet required a shed load of rocket fuel to get it into the air!
Without trying to stir up a hornet's nest I'm all for people being entitled to their own beliefs but when they use them to encite hatred and, in a basic sense, stir up trouble, I see no reason at all why they should be afforded the same liberties as those who have good sense and common decency/respect for others.

You make a good point, Spikeo. And anyone doing so could be prosecuted under the Public Order Act for inciting racial hatred.

I'm pretty certain that flying (on a regular plane) is the safest way of travelling statistically.
/me calls for his brother tree to confirm this
I don't even think it's worth commenting on what that idiot says...wish the government would get their finger out and deprot him..he left his own country because he was in fear of his life...seems like theres an easy way to get him to leave here then doesn't it
It surprises me that the government would not let Louis Farrakan (think I have that right) into this country on grounds that he would incite racial hatred or similar and yet this man and those similar to him are allowed to not only be here but make a living here without being reprimanded in the slightest

I'm not entirely sure, but I think I'm right in saying he also receives a significant amount in state benefits too.

How this guy can even call himself a muslim makes me sick to my stomach. He needs to be taken out the back and put down. He makes ordinary decent muslims like me seem like extremists. His intense stupidity and hate is everything Islam is against. How anyone still listens to this bloody idiot is beyond me. People like this need to be stopped and more Muslims need to speak out against his kind and tell them that there actions will not be tolerated by the greater muslim community.

I don't mean to sound disrespectful or rude or anything (or sound like a real idiot, which for me is pretty hard), but more people talking like this please! I'm sick of whole religions being "tarred with the same brush" (mostly Islam at the moment, sadly ) because of some nutcases who are completely missing the point! For example, Christianity and Islam have been given bad reps for acts of violence and stupidity (especially Christianity, far too many to list here ) when the religions themselves are supposed to stand for peace and understanding. (eg: The 10 Commandments: "Thou shalt not kill"...that one was really thought about during the England witchcraft persecutions and the Crusades wasn't it? )
*Phew* rant finished, please feel free to ignore my stupid angry little babble (and/or tell me I've got verbal diarrhoea again ) if you want!
