They wouldn't be needed if all car drivers gave cyclists the proper space needed when over-taking..
Cycle Lanes...
....what's the point.
[rant]
The council has put cycle lanes all over town. Some places on BOTH sides of the road, which means the road is only two lanes, not three which therefore means longer queues at the roundabout.
All this I could live with, except for the fact that there are very few cyclists and the ones that do never use the cycle lanes.

I'm all for cyclists. I give them plenty of room when I overtake. It's just annoying when you have to overtake then when 2 feet to their left is a purpose laid cycle lane, and they still insist on using the road. I mean these people are just asking to get run over
Well, yeah, there really is no excuse for not using the cycle lanes, but I don't think they're asking to be run over
When they cycle without lights at night they are I live just outside Cambridge and cyclists are my pet hate. I'm *really* not gonna get started 'cos I'll be here all night and food is calling me

Isnt it the same when they nearly knock pedestrians over while riding on the pavement, personally I believe anyone driving or riding on the road (including horse riders) should have to take some sort of test.

And dont get me started on those motorised little scooters I think they call buzzboards (irresponsible rich parents I say).
Well, there is the cycle proficiency test at school (which I aced ) but true, there's nothing required by law..
There seem to be a lot more people cycling withiut lights now, compared to when I used to ride a bike regularly.
I'm right there with ya, hun! Cyclists are my pet hate too!!

They get all the cycle lanes, yet think they can flout the Highway Code by riding on pavements, almost knocking pedestrians over. And I *really* hate it when they stop at traffic lights, get on the pavement, cycle round the lights, and then rejoin the road the other side!!
And if they want to be treated fairly on the roads, then they can pay some sort of road tax like us motorists!!
That's not fair. There are a lot of cyclists out there who flout the red lights, cycle lanes, ride on pavements etc. But I am not one of them. And the number of times I nearly get run over by cars going too fast/not paying attention/not actually believing I am traffic too, almost beggars belief. I don't get allowed to turn into the road I live on, because no-one will let me turn right. I get pushed down completely the wrong road at the roundabout by buses who don't care. I get annoyed when I'm waiting patiently by a red light and another cyclist just waltzes on through (I yelled back once, and the response I got was "it's about to turn green..."... go figure) But I have far, far more trouble with motorists who, because they can afford to drive a big tin can which keeps them safer, can ride roughshod over my rights as another piece of traffic.
Please don't tar all of us with the same brush.
