Ok, how cheap do you think i could get a laptop for? One with internet, all the basics and cd rom and floppy disk drive, or without floppy disk drive? Second hand or new, do you think I could get one for about £100-£200?

For reasonable specs i think you`d be looking more in the £300 region.By reasonable i`m talking pentium 2 or similiar,6 GB harddrive,400 MHZ with inbuilt floppy and CD.The older laptops tend to have CD,but not floppy (which is a hassle it you need to reboot from a floppy)or vice versa.Mine cost £280 6 months ago for these specs and i had to keep looking for a few months till i got one this cheap.all the others tended to go for £350-£450 with same specs. It may be better now as new bottom of the range laptop prices have got cheaper ,so maybe the older secondhand market has reduced.
best advice is keep checking regularly on ebay if you plan to buy there so you know what price you can get it cheapest for and don`t get suckered into something that with time and patience you can save money on.
I get faxed a list of old(ish) computers for sale once a week.
The laptops are so much more expensive than desktops. I was considering upgrading for a bit, but having seen average costs I'm gonna stick with my P266 for the moment. Also, I like tiny little laptops & you don't se many about in the budget bracket
