I've not long started the monthly trial for the constant wear lenses. The principle behind them is that they're made of a material that lets oxygen through lots easier than normal lenses. I used to wear lenses a few years ago and thought I'd give them a try, less likely to break than glasses if anything kicks off at work. My first night sleeping in them is tomorrow (Wednesday) night, followed by the "has sleeping in your lenses welded your eyes shut" appointment on Thursday morning. If I remember I'll let you know how it goes.
Contact Lenses
I've been wearing contact lenses for the past 10yrs or so. I now use the monthly ones which you take out at night and haven't had any problems with them. My opticians are offering a 30 day free trial of 'all day - all night' lenses and I wondered if anyone else has used these before.
It just seems a little weird to me to sleep in them. I know occasionaly when I've dozed of in the day or come in drunk at night and forgotten about them, they ache like crazy and I have to use a wetting solution to make them feel right.
How can the day & night ones not make your eyes ache?

I've been wearing contacts for about 17 years now and I'm very dubious of these new lenses.
Gas Permables were designed so that you could wear them for longer (ie allowing more oxygen to the eye). I know that technology has got better over the years but your eyes are sensitive and infections do occur - more so in contact lens wearers.
Personally I wouldn't touch those new all day and nighters with a bargepole. But if they work for you then YAY

My sister uses the all day all night ones and doesn't seem to have had many problems with them at all. She has complained about her eyes being sore a couple of times, though on the whole I think they've worked out well for her
I just use daily disposables, problem solved
Just started with the all day all night lenses and I love them!!! Couldn't recommend them more to be honest. In the past the material that lens have been made out of have all needed water to produce oxygen (and thus dry out your eyes), because the new ones are made of silicon they don't need water to produce oxygen and thats why you can wear them all the time
I can't even tell that i'm wearing mine now and its only been a week.
Lets face it, its a completely free trial. Give them a go and if you don't like them you've lost nowt.
P.S. Did i mention i think they are bloody fantastic

Aren't these going to get the same problems that silicon breast implants allegedly have.

...the new ones are made of silicon ...
I'll stick to my glasses. Having a Step-dad who is an optometrist helps. I get them at cost price.
If they explode while I'm on the aeroplane on Friday I'll let you know

Well they didn't weld my eyes shut.
At the beginning of my free month trial they (Boots Opticians) gave me one brand of all-day-all-night for my left eye and another brancd for my right, to see which sit better & are more comfy.
Over the last couple of weeks I noticed the one in my right eye more than the one in my left. It seems that the one in the left fits better than the one in my right, so they gave me a new lens for my right eye and I go back next week to check how it's going. I can now sleep in them for the rest of the month.
Having been blind as a bat (seriously, anything past 6 inches from the end of my nose goes blurry) since I was 11, waking up being able to see was a nice novelty. As for eyes drying out etc, I'll let you know if/when it hapens.
