Ive only suffered a couple of times and thats when I was preggers, I just used the Canesten pessary and it cleared up very quickly, one big word of advice is that it is very contagious so as you are married and erm adult ( ok so I dont want to mention the sex word ) it can keep being passed from partner to partner, so you will probably find you both need treating
Thrush
This is a question mainly for the girls.... but do you get thrush?, if so, how long does an attack last and how soon does whatever you use as treatment begin to work?
I've been plagued for best part of a week. To say i'm sore and itchy is an understatement. I can't sleep because of it and the treatment my GP gave me either hasn't worked or is taking its time in working.I took it two days ago and it still itchy and sore but there has been a slight improvement, i don't know whether i'm just impatient as this is the first time i've had such a bad attack and its making me miserable. Any thoughts, stories advice etc?
Incidentally, if you don't want to talk about it on this thread, then by all means email me on keenangel@tangent21.com

Canistan Once (or is it Canistan One? I get mixed up between that and Diflucan) For me its always worked really quickly. The ad claims do seem to be true.
This is why you need a journal Keeny! You could have kept this all girls only

Had it once 'cos I was on antibiotics and I used Canesten pessary and the cream. So true about the passing it between partners that's the one thing my doctor stressed.
Can't really remember a great deal about it but I know it hurts like hell and I wouldn't wish it on anyone. I think I was cleared up in about 5 days.
*hugs* to you

Canesten is what i was prescribed and to be truthful, that's what i thought, that it'd clear really quickly, or at least start to feel better within 24 hours. That's not the case and i don't know if i'm being impatient or its just not working for me. It says to give it a week and if there's no improvement, to see the doc. The cream isn't soothing as it should be, instead it makes me itchy and uncomfortable for a while. I have periods when i'm basically okay and then times (like now) when it's really sore and uncomfortable. I'm just fed up to the back teeth with it all.
thanks for the replies ladies

Ok, just had a chat with a nurse at my GP's. According to my test result, as well as having thrush, there's a yeast infection there too, which is why things aren't happening as quickly. So i'll be collecting a prescription for diflucan tomorrow morning.
Well, bless her, the nurse i spoke to contacted me again to tell me that a prescription for Diflucan and Canesten Hydrocortisone cream was waiting for me at my doctor's surgery. So you can imagine, i raced over there, got it sorted and I am now a lot calmer and a lot less itchy.
Thanks again for all the advice and the sympathy, it was very much appreciated

ouch. ouchouch. I feel your pain, and offer my deepest sympathy!!
It's less a matter of *catching* it, the thing is in all of us anyway. Takes a change in the natural balances (Ph and so forth) to bring it on - chafing (in an, um. *chafing* sense), stress, antibiotics... some people get it easier than others. Though warning, it can be catching for anyone you happen to be particularly close to...
All the treatments suggested work, but not always and not for everyone. diflucan always worked for me, until one time when I *really* needed it to work, and it didn't... For me, if I have it, it clears up after certain times of the month.
But really, really, *really* avoid soap and bubble bath...
Good luck...

Mind you the lads seem to have left well alone so they obviously didn't think of the bird thrush
And there was me thinking this was a thread of an ornithological nature...
And why ladies only? As pointed out at least twice, this is quite easily passed onto partners, and in fact can even develop on the male without .. contact. Us boys do have to get treated as well, y'know!
Not that I'm talking about me, though. Oh no. Good clean lad.
I'll shut up now.

I thought thrush was a yeast infection

Another good thing is to have only cotton undies and no tight clothes best is to get ya skirts out, also about the partner thing, men quiet often don't suffer with the same symptons as women it is always best for your partner to treat himself at the same time to be sure of not reinfecting each other
little other point my doc tolde me (didnt even know i had it BTW, my boyf found out first!)
Anyhoo, always wipe after a No 1 from middle to front and after a No 2, from middle to back (Now, clear this up for me, doesnt everyone?)
anyway, that was his advice.
