men and women
ok this isn't like a sexist thing or anythnig. when you think about it as much as i agree we should be equals acceptthe way we look do you think theres a noticable difference in the way we behave in general? for example in general i'd consider men to be more laid back than women and more into sports and stuff. then with women in general i'd consider to be more emotional in general not all the time.

Oh dear, I worry that secretly I'm male.
1) I never listen when people tell me stuff
2) I hate asking for directions and will happily get lost for an hour rather than ask, since I always want to figure it out myself
3) I'm a big channel flipper, having the attention span of a mollusk
4) Birthday cards? What did you do with the one I gave you last year?
Oh BUT WAIT! I hate, hate, hate televised sports!

I think there are legitimate biological and psychological differences. But since stereotypes aren't true for everyone, and since stereotypes about women have frequently been used to criticize, patronize or discriminate against them, it's now considered a little dodgy to point out the differences in them, for fear of stereotyping. But surely there can be differences without stereotyping? And differences without discriminating?
Yeah, I don't know what world I live in either.

wow what a nice thread to read! I like stuff like this. You know I have to agree with SPIKE in that I think we are different and we're different in different ways but that is necessarily a bad thing is it..? I mean really we compliment each other when you think about it. What one sex hasn't got the other has ... what we have to do is work out a way to ask each other for help and I think this is where all the problems with sexism come in because for so long, men were larger and stronger and deemed to be better and women were assumed to only be babymaking machines and the other way around men have been assumed to be strong and silent and useless at listening and understanding. What I think is great about the way we are now is there is a huge blurring of the lines between us which makes it more difficult for stereotypes to be applied (obviously not in extreme cases) and so really we can become more alike but why should we want to..? Why should I have to develop more skills when I know my partner has them..? I think the way we are is a fine balance that compliments each other - we just have to be more adept at not tipping the scales one way or the other and on a more serious note we have to be more vigilant in not criticising and pulling each other apart. We have to decide what is it that we are equally good at and let each other get on with it instead of it becoming a source of ridicule and discrimination - like caring and nurturing has been for women for so long - now that some men are doing it - it isn't quite such a bad thing eh... if you ctach my drift..? *sigh* I know what I mean

Sometimes I wonder if I'm the exception that proves the rule. Y'see, I *can* read maps, and I'm lucky enough to have a fairly decent sense of direction. Whereas my beloved would get lost in his own bedroom.
But then I don't like sport either. (except bike racing)... <all confused now> am off to hide in a corner and work out who I am!
