So nice to see that you're doing your best to dispell the old impression that many people have that Cambridge is full of people that are above the 'poor little dears'
Cambridge??
Hey all,
Just wondering what people know about Cambridge 'cause I'm applying to the uni and haven't been down for open day or anything (yup, stupid!) and I was just wondering what to expect if I get to interview stage and stuff.
Also wondering what you can tell me about the night life costs in pubs and supermarkets etc.
Emmy *head full of * damned UCAS

Not from Cambs but do go there often, as I live in Norwich. I love Cambridge, its beautiful. Shops are not so good, the Grafton centre isn't too nice, the cinema is expensive but handy! Watch out for the raising bollards in the road - I saw a mini get stuck on top of one! Had 4 fire engines!! There are some nice pubs and avoid the guys coming up to you in the summer trying to get you to go on a punt - you get sucked in cos they're all so gorgeous Norwich has good shopping tho regular train services too
I've only known a couple of people to get into Cambridge and they were *all* doing social and political sciences! I think there must be something about the course....

I went to Uni at Cambridge, and I'm still bloomin' here!
My interviews were pretty hassle-free - just chatting to the admissions tutor and the director of studies for my course. No extra nasty tests or exams to sit at all. I'm not sure that this is typical though!
If you get in it _is_ a very different Uni experience to other places; I did a one year MSc course in Sheffield after I'd finished which helps me compare. The workload is higher than other places, and it can get pressured. For me it was more or less nine weeks 'on' five weeks 'off' for each term; no wussy 'reading weeks'... Coping with that pressure is definitely one of the things you come out with and employers _do_ recognise the achievment.
College bars are _way_ cheaper than the pubs and the colleges do put lots of ents on so it's not just CornEx/Junction/etc. Thing about shops is that you won't be able to afford to go shopping cos you'll be an impoverished student Seriously though - access to London on the train is very good; several trains an hour and it's not too expensive with a student railcard. This also extends your range of gigs/clubs if you get off your bum and travel down there.
Coo, what a long wibble. In summary - it's a different place to study, and it's not for everyone, but if you think it's what you're looking for, go for it.
