not meaning to be disrespectful to any relegion but the image i got in my head of Ganesh with a mobile made me laugh.

there's always gonna be someone who will complain look at the uproar kevin smith caused with Dogma and they hadnt even been to see the movie when tehy started their street protests. though i thought "buddy christ" was cool lol.

(after seeing the picture: i thought Ganesh had eight arms )

I'm not a religious person at all ( at DM) but that doesn't stop me respecting the beliefs of those who are. I think that this amounts to defacing the symbols of religion and I feel this is seriously wrong, not to mention disrespectful of anyone following the faith in question.

Hardly the first thing that springs to mind when you're looking for a marketing niche, is it??

Seems to happen a hell a lot with the cross. Surely the guy in town cetres who tells me im going to hell if I dont repent my sins is being disrespectful towards my choice to be an atheist.

At the end of the day its a statue being sold if the people who are complaining dont like it dont buy one and get on with their lifes and find something more constructive to do with their time.

This is hardly something new, and unless you're hyper-sensitive I personally can't see how it's that offensive. This is the first one I've seen with Ganesh on, but when it comes to Christ there's loads out there, and most of them are pretty damn funny. There's the Buddy Christ that stands proudly on top of my Hi-Fi, there's the Jesus action figure "with authentic gliding action" and apparently you can get a nodding Jesus to go on your dashboard!

Then there's the web. Oh yes, God bless the web. For it gave us such divine delights as Dress up Jesus and Where's Christ?

Basically, it's funny to belittle an authority figure. Whether it's your boss, the President or the alleged creator of mankind. Nothing's gonna stop that, so just live with it, don't try and sue it.

And besides, what makes you think that every time members of a religion get ticked off at something, they'll declare a jihad (and no, before you ask, I'm not using "jihad" in specific reference to Islam or anything, it's just a rather appropriate term!) on the source of their worries? Forgive me for being naïve, but I was under the impression that the majority of religious followers followed the general rule of "killing (and blowing up manufacturers of cheap tacky merchandise too) is bad, mmkay?" [/mrmackeyism] just like everybody else? Silly me.

*Phew*, sorry 'bout that, needed to vent some steam. At absolutely anybody or anything. Now I feel so much better!

I've since discovered, courtesy of a special exhibit at the Hong Kong Museum of Art (yes, I am one of those people that reads almost all the labels!), that apparently Hindu statues have strictly prescribed rules about which deities should have what implements in which arms. Thus the statue of Ganesh holding a mobile phone would be breaking those!
