dress smart and act nice and polite and maybe try and crack a small joke but nothing too funny, jsut something to show you could be a good member of the team.
Problem with Job Interview
As a couple of you know, I was informed a few weeks ago that my deptartment at BT would be closed at the end of August (ergo no job). So armed with only my CV, the Evening mail, a handful of envelopes and some stamps I applyed for a bunch of other jobs.
Anyway today I got a letter from one company asking me to come in for an interview.
Here comes the problem...
Even though I have had over 6 jobs in the past 12 years, I have never had an interview. So I was wondering if anyone has any good interview tips that they could pass on...
Thanks in advance...

Read up on the company & prepare your questions in advance.
There's nothing worse than getting to the "So do you have any questions" part and not having any.

All I can say is be yourself, and show them that you want to work for them - be enthusiastic and interested in what the company does
Good Luck

Be prepred for questions that don't immediately seem work related. Companies focus a lot more these days on skills like communication, working well withing a team, presentation skills and organisational skills. I've known interviews in the past be based *solely* on this!
Remember to smile!
Take some time to think about your body language, try to look as open as possible (Don't fold your arms, try keeping your hands folded in your lap, don't clasp them together as the knuckles can go white as you get more nervous and you'll come across as tense.) If you find you're getting nervous and can't look the interviewers in the eye, a really good trick is to actually look at the point between their eyes - it looks like you're looking at them intently!

All good tips. Also, don't rush to answer the questions immediately, you can take a couple of seconds to get your answer together and it looks like you're really considering your response (but not too long, otherwise it'll seem like you've frozen). Remember also, it isn't only you that wants their job, *they* need you too.
Good luck hun *fingers crossed*

make sure you have predetermined responses to some obvious questions like:
what are your bad points?
what are your good points? (don't go over the top )
where do you see yourself in x years?
definitely have questions to ask back (good one from Tycho) and make sure they are interesting.

A question I mentioned to Wmply Willow & Desire a few weeks ago was to ask...
If I were to be offered the job and in turn were to accept it, what advice could you give me in order to be successful..?
Hope this helps

On a lighter and cheekier note - when it comes to the "Do you have any questions?" part of the interview....
Rather than sit there and say erm no..... I found that by saying "When do I start then?" normally clinces it for me - I've done it twice and got offered jobs twice
Good luck!

Learn as much as you can about the company and just generally be cool and confident but try not to be cocky or arrogant. Hope it goes well
Hi QC! Best advice I can give is just be yourself. If you get a question about what you can bring to the company, tell them that you have gained a wide variety of skills over the course of your working life and look forward to using them in your new job Good luck!
Hey Queen C Firstly congrates on the interviews, its one step in the right direction.
You say that you aren't due to finish your job until August so check with BT how much notice you are still required to give and make sure you ask at the interviews what date they would prefer the new candidate to start. If BT are willing to let you go quickly it may make the difference to clinching that job. Also the eye contact mentioned is important as at my last interview I made an effort to keep my eye contact in check and found I didn't fidget too much. I thought I'd done really bad with my questions though as it had been my first interview in 8 years but I actually got offered the job (even though I turned it down). Just keep calm and count to 5 before answering
