SAMANTHA f English
Pronounced: sa-MAN-tha
Perhaps intended to be a feminine form of SAMUEL. It is sometimes claimed to mean "listener" in Aramaic.
Which I thought odd, seeing as I already knew that my name meant 'Gift of God' (oh, the irony!). Anyway, here's what the website said:

...so it really means 'Gift of God'.
Which also reminds me of some of the 'reading between the lines' that is very popular with gay Christians, about the relationship between Jonathan and David. Best summed up, possibly, where one of them is on their death bed and describes to the other how he loves him stronger than any man has loved a women...

From the Hebrew name Yehonatan (contracted to Yonatan) meaning "YAHWEH has given". In the Old Testament Jonathan was the eldest son of Saul and a friend of David. He was killed in battle with the Philistines. A famous bearer of this name was Jonathan Swift, the satirist who wrote 'Gulliver's Travels' and other works.
