Is the story supposed to be a newspaper type story?
If it is then I'd suggest trying to get background/biographical info and any interesting childhood anacdotes to start off the story.
After that I'm stuck coz my brians not working at the moment, but i'll give it some thought

without more definition im gonna guess it's like a obituary but without the death part kinda task? if so ask open questions that can cover a large area of their life eg ask about parents. ask what their happiest memory is. how they spent their childhood summers. their hobbies/likes & dislikes. who their childhood hero was or who still is their hero. and what they what to do with life.
we did something similar in college had a great time thinking up silly answers coz to be honest the teacher wont really know for sure if it's true or not unless you tell her (oh you just gave me an idea)

Tried a few of those in the actual interview, (we had to interview each other, boy is our lecturer sadistic! )but we both had pretty nasty mental blocks; you know when somebody asks you what your favourite x or y is, and your mind just goes blank? It was like that pretty much the whole way through, (which basically suggests I was in my normal state of mind... ) which is bad when you're trying to give the other person good (but not potentially embarrassing ) material for their piece. So now, we agreed to exchange Q's and A's via e-mail, as the piece isn't due in till Monday...
