Well, personally I don't like them. I think they're generally ugly and I don't see the point. Ear-rings are alright, but that's because they are acceptable and 'normal' in a wider social context.
Other than ear-rings I definitely think piercings are very, very ugly, especially facial ones. They just look nasty.
Having said that, just because i don't like them, doesn't mean i would try and stop anyone else having them done if they want.

I have to agree as to facial piercings. I don't think much of them. However I do think body piercing is pretty cool. I have my nipple pierced and I haven't regretted it at all. I have a friend who when I first met her had just her belly button pierced. Now she has her tongue, her nipple, her belly button and her.... well you get the picture
Why did I get it done??
People always thought I was kinda boring and normal and I wanted to do something a bit wild and different for me. I have considered getting a tat, but even the so called 'temporary' ones never go away and cost a lot to get rid of. At least with this I can just take it out and the hole will heal (I think :rolleyes
It's just something different and individual, something I think marks me as me. And I was very bored in Glasgow one afternoon....

Right there with you.
But, being as everybody gets piercings done these days 'to be individual' doesn't having one just make you another person that is part of the fad?

I'm not so adorned myself, but it depends on the person. Some people carry piercings off with panache, others look like they drive a motorbike come jugganaught at weekends and have ten mates who like to go by "razors". (Which in all likelihood they do.)
Eyebrow piercings and tongue studs look best IMO.

Ewwwwwww!! Eyebrow piercings are one of my bugbears... they look really nasty. They look really cheap and i'll say it again... nasty

At least with a tongue stud you can't see it most of the time.
I quite like ear piercings, but not loads of them all over the place. I just like one or two at the bottom. As for the rest, facial piercings are just plain old nasty, i don't understand why people get nose studs, cos what happens when you get a cold?! Snot all in the stud and stuff... ewwwww!
I don't like body piercings. I used to have my belly button done but i took it out because i thought i'd outgrown it and felt like it looked juvenile. Nipple piercings must really hurt and for other bits and pieces... whyyy?

See what I mean? They're not all head bangers! Nige is lovely, though he does tend to get a bit narky if you get too close to him with a magnet.
i got my lip done once when i was in wales i had wanted one for so long and finally plucked up the courage (problem was i went on a drinking binge night before so i bleed all over the place LMAO) 12 hours later i freaked out at the thought of having this massive hole (it seemed massive at the time) or scar on my face at aged 40 so i took it out. (funny bit was when i got it and bleed everywhere i was wearing a 666 jumper and had a 2 hour coach ride home, funny how no one sat next to me )
Bill Bailey:
you can tell if people with face peircings havent checked themselves in the mirror just before leaving the house coz they have fridge magnets stuck to their face.
Well I like em, I've a few including my nose and I'm happy with it, it's all down to personal choice.
And I think eyebrows done on guys is dead sexy as with nipple piercings

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it

and for other bits and pieces... whyyy?
I've had several bits & pieces done 'tho I never wear earings. I had my labret pierced (which is the name of the jewelry they use rather than the body part, but mine was just below my lip). It was a tiny purple stone and I loved it. It rubbed on my teeth 'tho so it had to go. I had my nipple done (which also came out as it got on my..........er.....nerves ) and I had my belly button done about 13 years ago before it became the trendy thing to do when you're 14 I'm also pierced lower down (trying to keep it family friendly - hee) which has never caused me any problems or interfered with anything. I could tell you a few stories but there may be minors reading I wanted my tongue done but have a vein running through the middle so can't.
When I had my labret put in the other mums looked at me like I was a freak. This made me laugh 'cos I always thought if you only knew half of it *snigger* I don't mind piercings on other people except, as several people have said eyebrow piercings (especially gold ones). They remind me of lads in their Burberry caps, Burberry scarves, Burberry jackets, Burberry shirts and Burberry socks. They reek of council esate, and before I get called a snob I lived on a council estate for most of my life so I can throw those stones
My boyfriend has his nipple done and that looks good but the day he comes home with his eyebrow done is the day I kick him out

You take it out and clean it *shrug* Its no different from maintaining basic hygeine on braces (for example)

I currently have two peircings in the lobe of each ear, though I don't wear a second pair that often, Having said that I am thinking of getting a third done.
I wanted my ears pierced since I was very little. Apparently when I was about 4 years old I was in the jewellers when my Grandma was having her ears re-peirced and when she was finished I promptly climbed into the chair expecting to have mine done too. My Mum wouldn't let me and I cried buckets!!! After that she always said that I could have them done in the Summer after I turned 13 (It had to be summer so that they'd heal up enough to be taken out for PE at School)
The long awaited summer turned up and my Mum kept making excuses not to take me until it was too late. So the next Summer I saved up my birtday money and went and had them done on my own - I lied and said I was 16. My Mum couldn't really shout at me because technically I hadn't done anything i'd been told I wasn't allowed to do!
My next peircing was my nose. I just decided to have it done one day when I was 17. I had it done in the local tattoo place and I had to lie about my age again! I remember my younger sister had to wait outside because they weren't allowed to have children in the same room when you had it done. I loved having my nose peirced and I built up a lovely collection of pretty studs for it. Funnily enough for teh entire time I had my nose stud in I never got a nose bleed even though I've suffered with them since i was little.
My mum didn't even care about this one as she'd always wanted to get her nose peirced and had never been allowed when she was younger or got round to it once she was old enough to be able to do it without permission.
Two years later I decided to get my eyebrow pierced. It looked great in real life and really suited me. I got the sack from a restaurant I was working in because I'd had it done but this was a good thing coz it made me go out and get a better well paid job to fund my studies.
I also tried getting the top of my ear done, but I didn't think that one through properly and had it done on teh side that I normally sleep on. I removed it after two days as it was too painful to sleep with.
I don't have the nose and eyebrow peircings anymore. I decided to remove them when I finished Uni and had to start looking for a 'proper' job. I didn't think that it would create the right impression in interviews. You can't tell that I have ever had my nose peirced and you can only see my eyebrow scar if you look *really* closely. I have a bigger scar on my eyebrow from when I fell and hit my head when I was a kid.
I plan on having one more piercing... *if* I ever manage to get a flat enough stomach for me to think it'll look okay, I will get a navel peircing. But that will be a long time coming.
I find opinions of those who disapprove of piercings interesting.. there are some very strong negative words being used that suprise me in a discussion about Jewelrey.
And in response to Maff's comment about individuality... Its not the peircing itself that can give you a sense of individuality, but what you put in it.
I hope this helps with your project Spitefulangel
Crikey How long did that post get!!!!

Ditto! I completely forgot about that but I was only 14 so it was a loooong time ago - hee hee.

i got the top of my ear done three times but each time something went wrong first time they told me to keep twisting it but in doing that my hair got tangled up in the butterfly and my mum had to remove it using her nails and a pair of pliars. the second time my ear swelled up like balloon and hurt like hell and the third time it got infected so i just gave up after that.
I have one hole in each earlobe, a navel piercing and earlier this year I got my nose pierced - I'd wanted to do that one for ages.
I don't regret any of the piercings I've had, infact I love my nose piercing. As for "what happens when you get a cold?" you sneeze, you blow your nose, etc etc etc. I must admit I was a bit worried about 'relearning' to do it, but it's really not a big deal and as Gerri said you can take it out if need be.
Why did I have them done? Well, I didn't have any of them done to make a statement, to be individual or anything else like that, but simply because I wanted to. Nose piercings can look truely awful on some people, but until I get a chain to link it to an earing I think I'll get away with it (NEVER going to do that, btw!)
I don't think it changes people's opinions about me or affects a first impression because I have some very subtle little studs for it. One girl at work liked mine so much, she went and had hers done too (which annoyed me quite a bit at the time) so it can't be that bad :

I have (or have had at some point) eyebrow, ears, nose & tongue.
The only reason I never got my eyebrow & tongue re-done after they each came out was because of money & jobs (most places frowned at my nose, never mind an eyebrow!).
I do however, fully intend to get both done as soon as I have the time & money.
I like mine & I'll have them for as long as I possibly can, so I guess that's a Pro for piercings
BTW, if you ever get an eyebrow piercing & it grows out, don't worry.
Most of these piercings grow out the 1st time, but if you get them re-done behind the scar of the original piercing then it won't grow out again (scars being dead tissue, eic.)
