I have issues with how marriages are carried out and what is said in the ceremony generally. The basic premise of a marriage ceremony is one man giving a woman to another man. Granted, most people don't see it like that anymore, but that's the idea it represents.
There'll certainly be no religious referrences in any wedding I take part in. And no giving away of anybody.

There are also two children from that marriage to consider. They have to be fed, clothed, educated, medical stuff etc, etc which won't be cheap.

If she have up her career to become a housewife then that must have been her decision. Men (well, most men) don't force women to stay home and do the cleaning and look after the kids.
If Ford's wife took the decision to stay at home then that's fair enough, but why should Ford pay for what she *could* have had if she'd made a different decision?
He shouldn't have to as far as i'm concerned.
