Gary Oldman did a cover of My Way when he was starring in the film Sid and Nancy. Personally I'm not overly keen on it, it's a bit tepid, there's no energy to it. But for geeky fact-fans (of which I am one ), it's this version that Spike's listening to in his car as he leaves Sunnydale at the end of Lover's Walk in series 3.

My friends and i have decided that liking that song is now a prerequisite for membership of the human race (we took a vote while dancing to it in Burger King prior to last night's Ataris gig).

I find that songs by Hot Hot Heat or OK Go can make anyone happy. And you can do much worse than the first Brand New album Your Favourite Weapon for a singalong.

Current feel Good song at the mo is the Eric the Half a Bee song from Monty Python...makes me smile every time I hear it!

"Jerusalem" is of course redder than Marx's arse.

As that's part of a very decayed corpse, I won't argue. It is, however, also loaded with Christian and ultra-patriotic imagery. Not that there's anything wrong with Christian imagery, before I land myself in trouble like I did at the weekend, just didn't think it was your (Byron's) cup of tea.

Jerusalem's political sentiment is my own, and I appreciate it aesthetically in the same way I think Wren's St Paul's is a damn fine bit of architecture; I don't have to believe in Christianity to value it any more than I do Valhalla to value Beowulf or Zeus to enjoy Homer. Patriotism is simply a love of a country, and I love England: I don't want it torn down; I want the best of it for everyone. Jerusalem isn't another lazy jingoistic wallow, it attacks England's decay and rallies us to create something better. Isn't that a great ideal?

I'm also a Blake fan, trippy druid geezer that he was.

Yay, someone who gets it! Finally, after years of watching it sung jingoistically... It's arguing a lot for freedom of thought - Mills in Blake symbolising systemic thought, which traps the thinker etc. Very good poem, very good poet, Jerusalem makes a lot more sense with everything that's around it...
And so to JJ's Patriotism thread...

Sorry to pull the thread back on topic but I suspect that there may be a few oppinions on the BBC's choice of music for when you're down in the dumps. Of course, it's a Radio 6 survey, so there were only 3 people who took part...
