Feeling down...

OK, so over the last term or so at uni I've been feeling down...I think the second year has hit me hard. I've really lost faith in my ability...it seems like whatever I try, when it comes to writing essays, I'm not getting any better. I've tried changing my writing style, reading a lot and getting advice from tutors, nothing seems to be working.

Its getting really frustrating, and its making me question why the hell I'm here. I work, and I'm not getting anything out of it. I'm really scared that I'm going to end up giving up on myself and dropping out or failing. I need some serious help

. I've got an appointment to see my supervisor, but I'm not sure whether that will help...I'm just feeling really negative about everything at the moment. That really cannot be a good thing

Sorry for the ranting, just needed to vent it somewhere.

Well, that is, along the whole "feeling negative about everything" thing (I wouldn't have put my view of things quite so generously, but that's me for you...

) Well, if it's any consolation, unlike moi, at least you've had the guts to actually mention it to someone... lucky git!

I tend to take a pretty negative view of things, ie: "Why the hell am I here?" "Well, either the people marking your A-levels or UCAS made the mother of all clerical screw-ups!"

Although, in my experience, it turns out I can do the relevant stuff, I just don't know it; so hang in there!

Platitude of the day...

My mother always says "the greater the light, the greater the circumference of darkness" - ie the more you know, the more you realise you *don't* know. This feeling that work is getting worse is really you knowing more than you can express yet. I see this all the time, you will get through it, I promise. I went through this in year 2, and I came out with a very good grade. You've made an excellent start in realising that your work isn't as good as you'd like - a fantastic building block. As Alan said, hang in there...

Haven't really been in your situation but hang in there hunny. Can you see a student support officer? I'm sure you're entitled to free councelling. *hugs*. You're a very intelligent person and I believe you can do it.

I know how you feel. I had the exact same thing. Then one afternoon

I woke up and realised that I had invested too much time and money into doing the course and pulled it around.

Hang in there. At least you are willing to talk about it

Spitefulangel Why buy the cow...when you get the sex for free

hopefully just talking to us lot here, and other people about it will help. i know that when i was down with uni, having people to talk to and confide in really really helped, i'd been bottling everything up, so i was so relieved to talk to people and hear what they thought!
gotta say, i found all the advice from people very helpful, now, i really feel like im back on track....thanks you guys

babydoll I don't exercise. If God had intended me to bend over, he would have put diamonds on the floor.

I don't know if this will help but apparently most of the people who end up not finishing a university course drop out after Christmas in their second year.

So you're not alone if feeling like this but what makes you different is that you clearly have the strength and determination to do something about it.

Some of my mates dropped out and they just stopped going to lectures and basically gave up. It sounds as if you are really determined to make it work and I think that speaks volumes for you.

Stick with it hon, it is all worth it - trust me. I wanted to restart my course again and do something different when I was in my second year but I didn't in the end and I'm really glad now.

Thanks guys...I went to see my supervisor today; he's going to go through one of my essays and try and work out whats wrong and how best to fix it...I'm hoping that I can sort this out soon. I'm vworking on an essay at the moment (although t21 is doing a great job putting me off

) and I'm following suggestions in a book I've got, so I'm hoping that'll help
