And i don't know what your beef with Command & Conquer: Generals is, but i played it all the way through, and it was a very, very good RTS.

I'd just like to point out that P - A (no offence intended, just trying to help avoid an argument ) is somewhat of a C&C 'purist': he (like a lot of C&C fans) prefers the earlier instalments and (I hope this is a good comparison) views the later ones (Red Alert 2 and up) as The Phantom Menace to say, The Empire Strikes Back, even though they're still enjoyable games in their own right.

This change was generally a result of EA throwing out the original C&C staff and replacing them with their own, as a 'hijacking' of the franchise. Also, having seen what the original developers were planning to do with, say, Renegade before EA prematurely released it, I can see why they're disappointed. Plus P - A (like me) really doesn't do sports games, though I must say I've heard a lot of good things about NfS Underground.

Hey, correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't someone here say a while back that a Games discussion thread wouldn't do too well here? This thread could turn out to be evidence to the contrary... (*cough*hint!*cough*) *adds self to the recent list of people to look nicely at the techie people *

Is (Goldeneye 2) gonna have anything on common with the original or is it just using the name to steal some popularity?

Well, that's all well and good, but maybe C&C purists are wrong

I've played every Command & Conquer game (and expansion pack) with the exception of Renegades. The original was simply fantastic, no denying that. I didn't like Red Alert, Tiberian Sun was better, but not as good as the original.

Generals, though very different to previous games in the series, moves the series forward in a way that puts it on a par or above other games of the sort that are about at the moment. It's certainly not the same sort of thing the original was, but it is an excellent real time strategy game

Y'see, that's what differing tastes are for; personally, I love the original Red Alert (and am trying to get hold of my own copies of Counterstrike and Aftermath, so I don't need to keep borrowing Phoenix - Aeon's... ) and generally don't have a problem with any of the C&Cs I've played... (having not played Generals... not having a PC more powerful than a Pentium 75 puts paid to that!)

You didn't like Red Alert

My problems with Generals are as follows:
It was made by Mark Skaggs
No live action F.M.Vs
The Overlord/Emporer is a poor replacement for the mammoth
The whole U.S.A is great thing
They didn't stick to their original sides E.U U.S and China
The G.L.A are from China riighht, more like middle east
The G.L.A army is too gimmicky
The only good unit is the Paladin
It's too easy
It's horrifically unbalanced and returns to tank rushes
There's no super base defenses (Prism Towers, Tesla Coils, Obelisks etc.)
China's the only side that can defend they're base.
U.S.A wins all the time unless you've got an experienced player with China.
The new interface whilst good was a ripp-off of StarCraft
Virtual Ted and Joe Kucan weren't involved
Brett Sperry and Joe Bostic weren't involved (this would be like shutting Lucas out of Star Wars)

There's more but you get the idea.
