I think the site is very quiet, with just the core membership (who have been around since *before* T21) posting generally, for a number of reasons.

Fandom generally gravitates towards specific sites for specific shows, and Tangent21's very wide remit has perhaps failed to attract the sort of numbers that other sites do.

Fairly early on in it's life time, a lot of people left T21 because they couldn't chat about things they wanted to in the manner they wanted to, so that's another reason.

Generally though, i think it's just real life taking it's toll and the fact that people drift in and out of websites like this. Online fandom (and indeed, internet communities in general) aren't as 'in' and certainly aren't as active as they were 4 or 5 years ago, and i find that to be a general trend, not just here.

I agree with a lot of what Maff said. I think it's also hard for new members to integrate themselves now as most of the people who post now have been here since the beginning. i think the only reason i managed to edge my way in is cos of Maff.

Well, I'm still here. But Maff is right when he says that show specific sites have more traffic, etc, because it attracts the die-hards of those shows. T21 just has too wide a scope, which leads to low discussion levels which, in turn, doesn't attract new posters.

I'm a case in point, I'm a member on an American DLM site and have posted over 500 times on it in just over three months. That's almost two years worth on T21. And even that site is going through a slow period because the show is between seasons. But come July, and following the con in January, I know it'll take off again.

I'm sorry to say that T21 has spread itself too thin that it just can't compete with dedicated sites. Active General Chat forums are a welcome spin-off. Look what happened with the original BuffyUK.Org.

I'm here! I just use this board as a place to catch up with my friends. I do think the board can seem a bit cliquey but once you post a few times people take you under their wing.

Like you've never done it before

Well i'm one of those from pre-Tangent21 days and i tend to lurk more than i post these days. And to echo Whistler, i visit a lot of Smallville site nowadays and have almost five hundred posts on one particular site, because i love SV, trying to garner interest in the show here was slow to almost virtually impossible.

Like Teresa, i catch up with my friends here (though i'm not drunk ) or just read on what's been going on. It is very quiet here at times, but i've been to show-specific boards and they are just as, if not quieter.

I am also here. I tend to use the IRC chat room more than anything. The site may be a little slow, but its still a nice place to look in on every now and again.

i find myself not posting as much anymore, or contributing, as a lot of things i feel i don't have anything to say about...probably because there isn't as much choice of new topics anymore...
i don't use irc, so its sad that its gone kinda quiet on here, i used to love checking for new posts as there always would be some, but there just aint as many!
but i still love it, and i shan't be going anywhere!

Well i stuck with it.

I was around when BuffyUK was just being talked about between WR and StuStuStu. I was here thru the rise and the fall of BuffyUK and ive stuck with T21 too.

I have to say i dont actually bother reading many of the little site section things. I only read the meets, the genetal chat and the music forums. I think theres a problem on the site where theres a select few people who have their views on things and if anyones is different they are obvously wrong and get told so. I think people feel pushed out and just cant be bothered to post because they dont want the hassel.

And it is a pity that the site is alittle run down but i think it just needs a perk. It does well when theres big posts that everyones involved in so it is still alive and kicking.

And what does it matter if everyone on here is friends? Everyone was new at some point but they've all worked their ways in.

We still have really successful meets and if it was a bad site no one would bother would they?

So i dont think all is lost, im still proud to be a T21'er.

I used to psot all the time, but for lots of reasons I don't so much now, and I think a lot of what Maff said is true. Not so sure I agree with online communitys not being so popular anymore though. But I mainly jsut read a few psots in general chat and in meets and coventions. I think one thing thats stopped me posting so much here is the fact I now have an online journal and prefer to write about things in there. I think thats probably the same with some other people here.

I'm still very much here and don't plan on going anywhere.

Unfortunately due to long working hours I don't have the time to use chat anymore. This also means I tend to contribute to the forums that mean the more to me when I have the time to do so. Especially with real-life stuff popping up lately, I've fell out of a loop, but I still like to read what's going on.

Whereas other members have perhaps branched out on more contained sites where they have a specific show to talk about (or created their own as many people still like to do since all the Buffy sites branched off), I like so many things on tv that I lack in the time needed to do that.

In fact I have narrowed down my brief site visiting to just T21, journals and convention sites (for reference only) This is a huge change to what I used to do!!

It's true to say that the content isn't here for me to read at the moment on the shows I want to watch , but then I'm as guilty as the next person for not having the time to post reviews and thoughts up so I can't really complain

It has to be said though that the 4+ years I've been visiting either the original BUK or T21 have gone so quick that sometimes I can't believe people have come and gone There are many originals missing and I regret that the time I previously spent at meets wasn't better done so (but I'm shy to get to know properly!)

That being said, I'm sure every other member visits the site for different reasons. If there's something you think we are lacking in or want to talk about - that's what the post button is for /prep-talk

I know I sure as hell would be.

For me I still think T21 is alive. Granted a lot of them are my personal friends, if it weren't for them, I wouldn't have survived my move south. Hell, one of them is the best man for my wedding (That's a long way off though )

Sadly real life has intervened for me. There are far more things going on for me nowadays than there used to be. Work has taken off, my social life is booming and obviously there is the other half

In all honesty IMO if it weren't for the core membership that stuck through thick and thin (that includes staff), T21 would be nothing......

I'm new to T21 but I have to say I really like it. I don't know anyone on here but whilst quite a few people know each other they have still made me feel very welcome. (I might even summon up courage to come to a meet one day!)This hasn't been the case on other sites which have had a far more "cliquey" feel to them. Also due to time constraints I like the fact that I can post something one day and see replies the next day. Other sites seem to have people posting on them 24 hours a day so that if I post something on them one day by the time I have a chance to return to the thread the next day it is on about page 5 with 150+ new topics started in between. Whist this is ok if you have nothing to do but sit on a computer it makes me feel like an outsider occasionally butting in to someone's conversation. I don't feel like that here.
In terms of conversation topics I think there is a really good variety. In the short time I've been posting I've had discussions ranging from Charisma Carpenter's breasts to Big Brother (which I've just realised I've spent a lot of time on talking about Shell's breasts - Damn, better scrub the variety argument)

Me too I may not speak to a lot of people but I do enjoy them, I even drunkenly spoke to Spikes friends at the last one (for which I hope none of the remember)

In my four years ive seen a hell of a lot of people come and go, I probably should have spoke to people more or kept in touch, which is my fault as I dont like to intrude. I would hope some people on here would think of me as a friend and that I think of some of you as friends.

I'm still around, and have been since late 1998 or so.

Never a prolific poster, if there something to be said I'll be there. But I'm not one for deep and meaningful discussions.

For those that have been around since the early days it's often the case that their circumstances have changed and, like me, have less time to devote on-line (or in my case, where my professional life revolves around PCs, coming home to work on yet another PC isn't always top of my list of fun things to do) or are busy with other things.

Obviously, the fact that the TV show which brought me into this community in the first place doesn't exist any more, means that there will be fewer posts on that subject. But, for as long as T21 exists, I'll be here
