I'm not the foremost authority on this, but I remember reading something recently about this - and from what I can recall it applies to XP. If you haven't got XP, ignore what I'm about to say.
Initially, it doesn't seem to be possible to remove the pre-installed version of MSN, as it doesn't appear in Add/Remove programs list. But after applying service pack 1, it appears in the list and you can then go ahead and remove it.
