Anyone?????
Teccie Help Needed Please
Ok two things.....
Firstly I can't seem to download images from my digital camera anymore onto my computer - it fires up and the egg timer comes up as if it's trying to "read" the information then nothing...... I did it all ok last week but today it's not doing anything. Works ok on Len's computer though, so it's not the camera itself.
It's not even a new camera or anything so I don't know why this is happening? Any ideas?
The second thing is that when I start my PC up I get a window pop up saying:
"Can't Run 16-Bit Windows Program" - Insufficient memory to run this application. Quit one or more windows applications then try again.
I have no idea why this is happening either - I've not done anything different to the PC, or installed anything new (aside from a new scanner - but that was done weeks ago).
It's not making the computer work any different either (apart from the now new issue of not being able to download my photos).
Any ideas anyone? I run on Windows XP.

I have seen this error before, just can;'t find the answer now.
First thing to try though is to de-install and then re-install the camera drivers/software
As the error is probably from this, also check the camera's website for newer versions.

That's the thing - there was never one. All I had to do was plug in the USB cable to the PC and the camera and windows automatically downloaded the images. That's what it did on hubby's PC and I know for a fact there is no driver/software on his PC for my camera

found this on another forum:
Run msconfig and look under the Startup Tab to see if you recognize any old programs that could cause this. Click Start, Run. type msconfig in the box and hit OK. Good luck, hope this helps!!!

I'm an idiot when it comes to PC's...... (in other words I didn't know what to look for after that or what to do)

your could try a look at the event viewer.
Start>Programs>Administrative Tools>Event Viewer
and see if any on the entries in the application view show as an error. this should tel you what program is failing.

I think you should defragment your harddrive
Click on Start, Programs, Accessories, System Tools and select ScanDisk then Defrag.
This might take a while if you haven't done it before. It should be done at least once a month.
unless you have already solved the problem

Jola the problems you describe are sadly classic "Windows disease" and could be a whole multitude of possible causes.
You could really do with having your local geek actually sit down at the PC and have a look. Either that or just reinstall windows and all your software for scratch. The effective but slightly sledge hammerish cure for Windows disease.
Do you run a firewall? Do you run a virus scanner? Do you run a spyware blocker (Spybot - Search & Destroy for example)
If the answer to any of these questions is "No" then you may have all kinds of crap on your PC that is causing this problem.

I'd be clutching at straws here, but I think that the problem is definately related. It's ominous anyway.

Ok camera issue sorted..... it just resolved itself *spooky* but......
I keep getting this message at start up:
"Can't Run 16-Bit Windows Program" - Insufficient memory to run this application. Quit one or more windows applications then try again.
I have no idea why this is happening either - I've not done anything different to the PC, or installed anything new.
What I'm also getting now is the mouse (cursor) keeps getting stuck - sometimes I have to re-boot the PC to free it up. I get a message saying that a USB device has malfunctioned blah blah...... it's getting rather frustrating.
I'm running on Windows XP - any ideas anyone?
