Wristbands - What's your take on them?
As the title says really.
Initially it was Lance Armstrong that came up with the idea to promote awareness of cancer and obviously to raise money to find a cure. Then roughly at the same time, Radio 1 came up with the idea of the 'Beat Bullying' wristband. This one was purely to promote awareness. Unfortunately, this seems to have spawned a 'fashion' and everyone wants one.
That tied with the fact that you can pretty much find a wristband to promote any cause that's going.
2 most recent that I can think of are a joint venture between the Samaritans and Kerrang! to promote the 'Rock for Life' campaign and the newest of all being Ozzy Osbournes 'Wank for Peace' wristband. To quote Ozzy....
So do you out there have any? Do you think they have just turned into a cheap fashion accessory (sp)?
Not to mention the dumbass' that are trying to make a profit outta them by selling them in eBay

I admit. I wear 2. Radio 1's Beat bullying band because I was bullied in school. And the Breast Cancer research one as that holds very close to someone in my family.
As said by Ozzy himself....
i'd rather have a wank than take a bullet!

Some sources online do indeed say that those wristbands are made in sweatshops. I hope those people have a good sense of irony.
But lets just be realistic here for just one sec... If the wristbands wouldn't have been made in the sweatshops due to cheap labor they would have been made for example in the UK in a more automated production process to reduce the cost of labour in combination with reduced transport cost. Probably making the wristbands more expensive in production still. So that would have meant that even less money (profit from the bands and the money for production) flowing into those countries.
I'm not saying that sweatshops are good and that they don't exploit people but in a sense for those people it is either that or no work at all. As short term there is no other work... So it is no money or a little money take your pick. These people can't afford to have our moral standards.
