I'm not playing EVE, mainly because I don't like point-and-click space combat (and there's no Linux version) but I am playing Vendetta Online, as that does feature twitch-based controls and a Linux (and Mac) version.
EVE Online
Hi people,
Over the past fortnight or so I've been playing an MMO called EVE Online. It's a space-faring one where you fly about and do... well... whatever you feel like, basically.
Is there anyone here who's a member?

The game still interprets your movements after 48hours solid gameplay when all you can do is make twitching stabbing movements at the keyboard..
My weapon of choice at the mo is WoW.. I'm on the Arathor Europe server, playing the horde side as Balkron and Isadrel (if anyone else here is mad enough to play it )

Twitch controls means you directly control your character, requiring fast reflexes and such, as opposed to most mmorpgs, where you just click on the enemy and you character moves itself.
ahh, WoW is twitch controlled to a certain extent
not really an rpg then is it - more of an fps/tps ?
But it's still fun!

Eve is the place I've been hiding for the past 5 months. It's an absoloutly amazing game for many reasons, basically it has everything that World of Warcraft and Everquest etc. don't: Sci-Fi setting; Player Driven economy; one single unsharded world; politics; an amazing PvP system; complete lack of experience grind - real time training ftw (for the win, an Eve-ism that's spreading to other MMOs); freeform characters - no classes; the ability for a newbie to stand on par with a 3 year vet - none of this wait until you're level 60 then compete; endless ways to improve your character - the equivalent of lv 60 is some ten years trainingand much more.
I'd write up a real review but quite frankly I wouldn't know where to start, Eve is something that has to be experienced. If anyone wants either me or Alan can send you a free 14 day trial key and I'd be able to give you some general pointers to starting up in Eve.
Oh, by the way, if you spot a slightly opinionated poster on the forums by the name of Kaalise that's me.

Here's a few videos that would give you an idea of Eve (and hopefully make you want to play). Note that the first is CGI, all others however are in game footage:
