In the London underground / bus explosion thread some people (jokingly) posted that their first thoughts were about the French being behind the attacks because of losing the 2012 bid. It now seems that this idea wasn't as ridiculous afterall....

According to documents posted by the French newspaper Le Monde explicitly gave his permission for the bombing on the Rainbow Warrior. The bombing, carried out by French secret service agents, was an attempt to sabotage the 1985 Greenpeace campaign against Pacific island nuclear testing.

At the time the two secret agents got arrested and were convicted to long prison sentences but were transferred to New Zealand where they were put on house arrest and released short after.
