I don't think its spouting off I think it's people offering advice. And don't think I am spouting off cos I have little experience!

I can't stand it when people spout off on a subject they have had no experience in (except for textbook experience). Have a kid and then see if you still feel the same way
Breastfeeding
No don't panic, I'm not pregnant. I'm just curious, my friend is having a baby and she's refusing to breastfeed cos "it creeps her out". I personally think it is completely natural and I think it's disgusting that some places don't let you breastfeed in public. Also breastfeeding has been related to stopping your child developing asthma and you develop a bond with your child.
What's your take?

No, I'm sorry - that's at best an overstatement and at worst downright offensive. With that statement you're basically saying that bottle feeding babies is a health risk.
by Demona
"I bottle-fed and my children don't experience x" is akin to saying "I smoked for 40 years and I don't have lung cancer". It still doesn't make it a good idea.
Not true.
There are many factors that can affect child health - mainly environmental. The studies that say that breast-fed children are smarter/healthier whatever usually go on to say in the fine print that there are also socio-economic and enviromental factors that should be taken into account at the same time.
Basically saying that bottles are OMG Wrong! is unfair on the huge number of women who don't breastfeed for any number of reasons. There are no health risks associated with bottle feeding - just fewer benefits. There's a difference, you know.
I was just thinking about the fact that breastfeeding could actually be dangerous to your child. I suppose if you smoked, drank or ate wierd things this would get in your child's system. Really I know bugger all but am just spouting random ideas
Actually very true. Aside from the obvious ones (drugs - prescription or otherwise, alcohol), someone I work with said she thought she'd nearly killed her baby by having a curry when the kid was a few days old. Apparently the poor wee thing was doing liquid poohs for the rest of the day.

Personally, I won't be breastfeeding, because I want to restart my migraine meds as soon as possible - once those hormones stop being supported, I just know I'll be all broken again Sadly tricyclic antidepressants are considered bad for babies... But at least it would sleep well
Lol! I'd be screwed if I was pregnant cos I couldn't take my anti depressants. Actually I'd just be screwed if I was pregnant

You don't have to give them up. Infact you can eat twice as much and tell everyone you're eating for two

It's healthy to put on weight when you're pregnant. You need the extra food 'cos the baby takes all the nutrients from you. Have you ever seen a skinny pregnant woman? I put on about 35lbs when I was pregnant with B ('tho 12 of those were all baby!)

I'm learning so much about being pregnant. I'm gonna be prepared. My friend is really not at all wealthy and she can't afford a bed, and with only 3 weeks to go I bet it's uncomfy to sleep on a blow up bed!
Has she been to the CAB to see what she's entitled too? I assume she's on benefits? If she is she can get a loan up to £1000 for the vital things she needs. I think it's called the social fund. They give you the money and then they take a small amount out of your benefits every week.

Well she's getting quite a few benefits. A maternity grant, other random benefits and housing benefits which means she gets a discount on her rent. She also gets milk tokens for SMA milk and normal milk.
