I know a few people who have always had two dogs and whenever one of them has dies thay have always replaced them. Whether this was to keep the other one company or for another reason I don't know. Another possibility is to find a friend or neighbour who couls spend time with your dog: alot at first and then gradually reduce it so he/she gets used to being on their own. I know it will involve someone giving their time, but it would probably help quite a lot
