First of all lets kick off with a funny video about some of the misconceptions that Americans have about Canada. Quality of the video aint too great but the quality of the "misconception" certainly make up for it. Just in case you didn't know the capital of Canada is Ottawa and Canada has provinces, not states. Especially take note of the guy at 4:41. Luckily some people do know about the world around them (5:12). No offense intended Sandia, this aint another stab at the USA, but it was too funny not to share, hope you also enjoy it

Here we go with another music mix video that shows why shooting events should be banned from the olympic games

Of course, you do wonder how many people they interviewed who knew the real deal, and of course, those people got edited out because it didn't conform with the joke. Also, the reporter did lead the people to say the things they did. But that having been said, there's no denying the basic truth that Americans don't know as much about Canada as they should--and I think Canadians in general know a lot more about the United States.
But some of the stuff the Americans thought true WAS kind of ridiculous--I mean ridiculous they didn't know they were being made fun of. The Canadian National Igloo? They don't have daily newspapers in Canada? The Canadian day is 20 hours long? I don't know anyone personally who would have believed any of that. But I'm sure there are plenty of people around who are so naive and know so little about Canada that you could get away with it. It WAS funny though.
Just in defence of those poor people... the human brain is a beautiful and lazy thing Much of the knowledge stored in your brain isn't directly at the surface, in other words you actually have to think about it for it to surface, which takes effort. When you are being guided into an answer that in some way sounds plausible enough and you are put in an enviroment in which it seems "safe" to follow the interviewer your brain won't kick into gear properly as it's just lazy and won't question what is actually happening. Thats why the kid in the video properly did correct the interviewer as the knowledge was either still fresh or as his brain is still in "learning" mode it questions its enviroment.

A very funny example from the Derren Brown Tv show - trick of the mind, shows this. Here people are put into an enviroment in which they feel safe to help this person, and part of their brain just shuts down and they do things that they would normally never ever do. This trick worked on around 2/3rd of the population and this is pretty substancial, so what chance did the poor people in this video have
Was actually looking for another clip but couldn't find it which was from the same show (last weeks ep) which showed Derren Brown asking someone for directions on a map, when the person focused on the map to point out where he needed to go 2 people with a big bill board rudely passed between them and Derren Brown would take the place of the second person carrying the bill board leaving a completely different person behind and they just didn't notice! Even when they replaced Derren Brown with a black guy the people in the street didn't seem to notice any difference. Just shows you how little of our enviroment we actually actively observe
