would have preffered either sam allardyce or alan curbishley (theyve done wonders on a budget of about 57p, so should be able to achieve miracles with a team worth a damn sight more), but ill settle for this guy, seeing as hes actually english...
New England Manager
Steve McClaren has been confirmed by the FA as the new England Manager to take over from Sven on August 1st.
'This was an opportunity I couldn't refuse'
Good or bad choice?
He's certainly done wonders for Middlesbrough over the last year and England could definately do with a new approach but he does have a tendancy to 'play-it-safe' As one of my colleagues puts it - we can look forward to some really dull football until we're loosing 3-1 and then he'll throw even strikers on so we'll win 3-4
I say that as long as we win it doesn't matter

Aw, we were never going to get the Brazillian were we.
Conjures images of Mike Bassett perhaps, but I've always thought this foreign talent thing was a bit over rated (defending a 1-0 lead for 85 minutes ... Sven, what were you thinking lad?! ) so wish Mr McClaren all the best.

Eventually I want Stuart Pearce for the job but always thought it was waaaaaaaaaay too soon for him at this point.
McClaren seems a logical step. He's already in the England camp and has been for the past 5 years (I think it's 5 anyway???) so should have an easy transition. However, the announcement didn't excite me or fire my imigination to change my 'endless pessimism' view of the England football team.
It's a wait and see for me

I think that I'd probably have more confidence if I thought that he was the FA's first choice. Why they decided to announce Scolari as their No. 1 candidate before he'd accepted the job I don't know. That's a complete faux pas in any line of work.
McClaren should have enough experience with England to do a decent job. I'm not sure that it will be any more than that though.
