Don't know if we've got any lawyers around these parts, but until they show up, I believe it is an offense to conceal evidence from the police in the course of their investigation, but I'm not sure if you're obliged to report crimes to them in the first instance.

Regardless of the law, I'm a staunch opponent of drug prohibition, so I wouldn't support anyone grassing Ms Moss to the cops. Better the reporter never wasted his time on this non-story to begin with. Top model snorts charlie shock! Well colour me a shade less than surprised!

Exactly! The media claim that she's a bad role model, but the vast majority of the people who she may influence probably new very little, if anything, about her alleged drug-taking until they reported it.

They should just leave her alone and concentrate on that tit Docherty. I guess that stories about him just don't sell as many copies

LOL! Well anyone that uses him as a role model is past hope anyway.

Suppose repetition doesn't shift copies. "Oh, Docherty's been busted for carrying half the Afgahn opium crop in his car ... oh, he's got off ... and is dragged straight back in for trying to sell the police smack on the court steps ... oh, gets off again ..." ad infinitum.

Last I read of him he was spraying an MTV audience with heroin.

Sorry to get Tangential, but on the Docherty thing, unless he done something wholly new and stupid, that bit about MTV audience and heroin is slightly off the mark.

No huge fan of Mr Docherty. Though plenty of musicians I love have gone too far down the heroin road, or been equally self-destructive, I just think he's over hyped (sorry, Libertines weren't all that, never mind Babyshambles). It all seems to much image not enough content. Anyway, he recently did an interview in Germany with MTV Europe. During said interview he sprayed the camera with contents of a hyperdermic needle containing blood. Which is pretty grim but not quite spraying an audience with heroin. Mr Docherty apparently does paintings using nothing but canvas and blood (why does a certain Dandy Warhols song come to mind... ), and it is likely this was the reason he had a syringe full of blood.

Mind you, we can all think of another reason why this might have been to hand as well.

Worth noting that a member of Babyshambles was so disgusted with the stunt he ended the interview and apologised on the spot. Pete has since voluntarily, at his own expense, booked himself into a rehab clinic in Portugal. Maybe it will sort him out. And maybe he might write some tunes worthy of his rep...

I'm pleased to say I don't pay to much attention to Docherty's escapades, but my bad for half-remebering the contents of some tatty free-sheet I picked up on the Tube.

Before the cadaverous one's lawyers get in touch, I immediately withdraw any suggestion that Docherty has assaulted people with anything besides bad music.

27 year old ladies like yourself probably know, but a lot of younger teenage girls who see her in various ads and posters may not. It's kids around that age who probably aspire to be like her.

I loved Kurt Cobain when I was a teenager but you wouldn't catch me shooting up heroin. If you're gonna do drugs/drink/whatever you'll do it regardless of whether someone you admire do it.

The fact that you didn't copy Kurt Cobain's actions doesn't mean that everyone who admired him didn't. Everyone's different. Some people won't be influenced by those they admire, others will.

This thread has taken an interesting turn, and ties in with Blair's recent pronouncement's about crime. To wit, who's the victim and who's the criminal, or suspected criminal in this instance? Moss or her admirers? Can you have a suspected victim? Much of the force of the law seems trained on establishing who 'did it', but not who he/she 'did it' too. Would it be a better world if we stopped chasing criminals and just compensated their victims instead? Um, probably not. Someone should start a thread about it...

Engaging with Blair's "debate" on his terms falls into his trap. The gaping logical flaws in his argument are plain to see, as is the fact this talk of "rebalancing" is code for destroying the presumption of innocence. Accept his terms and you accept his assertion that the fundamental principles of our law need to be re-examined. They do not. I'm not playing that snake-oil salesman's mind games.

Debating why those principles are necessary is one thing. Accepting as fact the fallacy that procedural safeguards detract from public safety is another.
