I try to ignore the Oscars these days because I just find the whole thing way too frustrating.

I can't remember the last time I sat there nodding to myself that 'Yes, that really was the best film of last year, they really hit the nail on the head there.'

In the last 12 months, there has, IMO, been a paucity of good films and the oscars demonstrated it. It was a pretty poor pack to choose from.

As far as it goes...

Ron Howard is a good director so but in all honesty, LotR was the most cinematic offering of the last 12 months and for all its flaws probably deserved more recognition than it got.

Denzel - Complete joke. Training Day was an average thriller and the performance, whilst good was nothing special. A classic example of 'It was his turn.' Glad that Jim Broadbent won, not just for Iris but for several fantastic performances last year.

No real feelings on the actress awards but Halle Berry was very funny.

The only award I really cared about this year was best screenplay where I would have dearly loved to have seen Memento win (although the Royal Tenenbaums would have done) so a big thumbs down on that one.

As for the rest, they get pretty boring but animation-wise: 'Yay' for Shrek and was pleased to see 'For the Birds' get an award after posting about it last week.

There had been rumours of a whispering campaign against "A Beautiful Mind". I honestly thought that Russell Crowe would win that award, as he basically won the same thing at the other awards... strange that he didn't win this time, but i suppose his behaviour at the Baftas put paid to that. I had a sneaking suspicion that Denzel Washington would win the Best Actor instead, and yeah Inc, i agree with you there, i had that feeling too.

I was genuinely surprised that Halle Berry won and her reaction was sweet (some have already queried whether it was genuine or not, but i tend to believe that it was) as i think a lot of people expected it to be a two way tie between Sissy Spacek and Nicole Kidman.

I was also pleased that Jim Broadbent won, though Joel knows him as the voice of "Percy the Park Keeper"

I'll probably watch the highlights on BBC1 tonight, as the overnight coverage, though i was tempted, with two kids, wasn't really an option....

And what was Jennifer Connelly wearing??

Nicole looked like a Blurmange and Whoopie ... ?

She was funny though

It was the Oscars.

Havent seen most of the films nominated but I'm just glad Russell Crow didnt win anything.

One good thing about the Oscars was always the free invitation to take the rise out of starlets' dress sense; unfortunately the fun is going out of it as it's too easy these days

May I just say.. HmmmmmmmmHalle. 'Nuff said.

Well my opinions on the rubbish that is awards is documented but ill chuck my two pence in.

Denzel A very very average film (he has deserved the oscar before but not for this one).

LOTR rings deserved much more.

And Slater (Jim Broadbent) from Only fool and horses won a award

I have to agree that Lord of The Rings deserved more, though I wont say that in any particular category it was head and shoulders above another film, simply that overall 4 awards was too few. Loved the tasseled suit though, where can I get me one of *those*?

I think to say that LotR didn't win anything is a bit wrong.. it did actually pick up 4 awards, mainly in the more technical categories.

I really didn't think LotR would take any of the "big" awards anyway, after all fantasy/sci-fi is still treated as more or less a joke by the Academy.

One of the film magazines mentioned that it doubted that LotR would get anything either, as there is still the opportunity of giving Peter Jackson an award or two from the other two films.

Oh well, it's not like we pay much attention to the Academy anyway

I only caught the highlights on breakfast telly this morning but YAY!! to Denzel and Halle.

Training Day was a brilliant film

Halle - it's an Oscar award, get over it!

I've never seen a more pitiful sight! And I thought Gwyneth Paltrow did a good job a few years ago
