anyone else remember her from 'Labyrinth'? I loved that film
She's really good in Requiem For a Dream (but what a depressing film....)

You know, I agree with you to a point. I also thought she was a bit over the top with all the crying and everything. And I remember rolling my eyes a bit after the display went on for a while.

Halle - it's an Oscar award, get over it!
I've never seen a more pitiful sight!
That's a fair point

But maybe you have to be an African-American actress in the movie industry to understand her emotion.
Personally I thought Lord of the Rings deserved Best Picture *or* Best Director at least ... the both would have been nice. I saw the film at the cinema and I was blown away - I'd never read the books and only had limited knowledge of the storyline and really thought it was fantastic. I can only presume that either the oscar pickers are really dumb or just trying to spread the awards a little thin among the *best of the rest*

I can't remember the last time I sat there nodding to myself that 'Yes, that really was the best film of last year, they really hit the nail on the head there.'
Ron Howard is a good director so but in all honesty, LotR was the most cinematic offering of the last 12 months and for all its flaws probably deserved more recognition than it got.
Sandia, you took Whistler's words right out of my mouth. And I don't think Halle Berry expected to win because Sissy Spacek had the big buzz and thus maybe she wasn't so emotionally prepared. While an African-American actress would've won sometime in the next 74 years, I wouldn't have picked Halle Berry to break that barrier, since a) she's young; b) she's a glamour-puss, not an "ack-tor"; and c)it's her first nomination. Though the Academy's been liking the young ones lately, what with Gwyneth Paltrow, Hilary Swank and Julia Roberts, so that's apparently a no longer reliable rule.

But on the other hand, she was the first African-American actress to ever win the best actress award. No doubt she was thinking of all that history, and the difficulty African-American actresses have getting quality roles in Hollywood, even today, and what it meant for her to be the one to finally break through the barrier of winning that Oscar. Yes, perhaps the crying jag was a bit much. You're right. But maybe you have to be an African-American actress in the movie industry to understand her emotion.
Umm no he isn't, he's not making you do anything!

Or, indeed "wot she said"

Oh, and Vong, I apologize if this was too lengthy of an analysis I've subjected you too. However, I'm assuming that anyone who checks out a thread entitled "The Oscars" has some tolerance for lengthy, boring things.
I understood your point
