Floods

The floods in Britain have been on the news here for the past couple of days. It looks devastating, and I certainly hope none of you are caught up in the worst of it.

I looked at some of the British papers online this morning (well, the Times and the Guardian) to see where the flooding is centered and to find out more about what caused it. What I gather is that the jet stream is stuck in an unusual pattern that's causing these storm systems to track over Britain. (?)

But I'm wondering, what IS a normal summer climate pattern in Britain. Well, let's say the England part of Britain. Are summers normally cool and rainy? And have the hotter, drier summers of some recent years been a bit unusual? I guess I'm wondering if people see a change in weather patterns in general, with this being just an extreme example.

Ah, yes, that'll be my achievement.

In my defence, there's sooooo many better tartans out there. My own Clan Scott tartan isn't bad, if a little loud.

If the chavs want to nick *that* they'd better be ready for a pack of brassed-off clansmen with claymores and a less-than-cheery attitude towards "neds".

yup - my clan tartan is far better than burberry - and if the chavs want it, theyve got a war on their hands.
hell, my clan managed to get the supermarket i work for to back down over the name of their own-brand whisky, so a bunch of idle layabout chavs shouldnt be any problem...

oh yeaa - did anyone see the youtube video showing some upper-class types finding a way around hunting foxes with hounds - by the simple expedient of hunting chavs instead?
ok, so the vid was swiftly removed by youtube, and apparently it was all staged - but even so, i dont think anyone in their right mind would object if this was legalised.
now, wheres my hunting horn?

Clan tartans. How cool is that! (Great site, by the way.)

So do the clans have some legal right to the patterns, meaning no on can use them commercially without permission? Or is it just the threat of having the living crap beat out of you by a bunch of angry Scots that keeps the business people honest?

I don't think Byron is Scottish...probably has a Scottish relation of some kind. Kinda like what England do with rugby players or cricketers for there national sides

i qualify for a tartan on the grounds that my mother is scottish.
so, despite the name i USUALLY use, im actually more accurately madhalfenglishhalfscottishbloke.
although gerri might have something to say about that

and some of you have seen pictures of my in a [strike]skirt[/strike] kilt...

English as a wet weekend me, but having a Scottish parent gives me legitimate dibs on the Clan Scott tartan.

If the clan has an uprising anytime soon I believe I'm obligated to join in. But that should be okay, they supported the government in the '45.

If the uprising's against chavs/neds, I'm definitely there! Especially if we get to do it youtube style.
