well i thoguht it'd be rubbish still gonna see it thoguh as i'm an anne rice fan, but its not supposed to be anything like the book which is my favourite by her so i'm not gonna try and compare them to each other. so is it actually at the cinema or did you see it om pirate or something?

It's not Aaliyah's only film, she was in Romeo Must Die (I think, haven't seen it). I haven't seen the film yet, but the soundtrack is driving me insane. Jonathan Davies has taken a bunch of fairly decent artists and made them sound like Korn!

I haven't read the other Anne Rice vampire chronicles, I only read "Interview" and the beginning of "Vampire Lestat" and I think that helped me to enjoy the film so much more.
Aaliyah was amazing in this film, this would have been her breakthrough acting role. she is mesmerizing as Akasha, she brings so much to the character in the little amount of time she is actually in the film. She is the essence of all the Anne Rice vampires are, mysterious, sexy, dangerous. The way she moves and speaks just hypnotises you.
Stuart Townsend is a great Lestat, ok he's not blond and blue eyed as he is in the book, but damn does he do a great job. he made me believe that Lestat could be a rock star, and with Jonathon Davis' voice coming out of his mouth is just unbelievable. Jon Davis' music in the film is great, so dark and gothic and the lyrics are beautiful, get the soundtrack, it's well worth it. Also having the Deftones song "Change(in the house of flies)" during the love scene was inspired!!
You find out a lot more about Lestat and how he was turned, Jesse, her family and how she falls in love with Lestat and then you have the story of the vampires having to destroy Akasha, but that's the main problem of the film. It all feels very rushed and you don't really get enough detail of background and character. They should have kept the two books as separate movies. The film is only around an hour and a half, and i get the feeling that a lot of scenes were cut, especially as Aaliyah passed away before finishing her scenes, there could have been more plot developing lost on the cutting room floor. There isn't enough vampire action, they didn't show enough of Lestat doing what he does best, kill. Again I think a lot of stuff was cut to reduce the film to a 15 certificate.
I liked the film a lot, although not as much as I liked "Interview" but I think i have to stop loving that film so much!
I'm glad they still released the film as this film is for Aaliyah is what The Crow is for Brandon Lee, we have a film that we can see their awesome talent for and something good to remember them by.

I love this film.yes it isn't a replica of the books, which i liked although i found them very melodramtic and 'pity me'.i'm glad they didn't wallow in that. this film is more of an interpretation of 2 books combined because frankly you couldn't make a film based on just 'The Vampire Lestat' That would have sucked, its the worst out of the three in my view. so by taking the best bits of that book and combining them with the basis of the third, i think they've made a cool film. this is part of what i've got on my website fav films section cos it says what i think
This film is a feast for the senses. Stuart Townsend provides a great Lestat, with a natural thrall that hooks you. he may not have the blue eyes and blonde hair of the book, but Townsend would have looked silly with them! the music and voice of Lestat,provided by Jonathan Davies of Korn is incredible, with songs also by Static X,Marilyn Manson,The Deftones and more, hey the soundtrack is a must in itself!(due to legal problems J.Davies does not appear on the soundtrack so he enlisted the help of other singers, like Marilyn Manson and Chester Bennigton of Linkin Park to sing them, which is good and bad because the songs are great by other singers but J.davies is the voice of Lestat and its so good in the movie. Can't wait to find a bootleg!)
Oh and Akasha,Wow, what a vampire! Its so sad that Aaliyah died, this character was brought to life by her, she moved like no other and had a thrall that was mesmerising. it is noticible that maybe there should have been more scenes involving her as Akasha isn't seen that many times (and i have seen stills from scenes unfinished where she appeared).Because of her beauty and amazing air of power, you actually want her to succeed in her plans, or at least i did!
the only thing really lacking is the whole vampire biting thing, Lestat just doesn't 'kill enough! there aren't enough scenes of him seducing prey, which is part of the appeal of Ann Rices's vampires, their seductive nature. That was evident in the first film.From what i've seen of missing scenes, i think they cut alot of the violent attack scenes to reduce the rating, because it wouldv'e been quite a adult film before.Shame really!(but i've only seen the pirate version, here's hoping the british version is saucier).Heres hoping the dvd has the missing scenes!
All in all i actually slightly prefered this to the first film 'Interviw With A vampire' because there wasn't the 'oh look at me, i make a sexier vampire than you' over acting of the stars. it seemed in that film, like every scene was a fight to over do the other, whereas this film is more of an ensemble cast, with Townsend playing a much more natural character than Tom Cruise. I could never imagine Cruise playing the rock star that Lestat becomes, Where as Townsend plays it like he was always a vampire rock god!
so there you have my view. if you like vampire movies, go see it and make up your own mind. if your a die hard Ann Rice fan, stay clear as you will be dissapointed.

Yes, she was. And she was quite good in it as well alongside Jet Li IMO.

I saw a trailer for QOTD on TV today (As well as a stunning poster ad on the side of a bus yesterday ) and it looked mildly appealing. So if I have some time to kill I might go see it.
