i think very little of the royals but she was like the only cool one. it is a shock it seemed like she was imortal and would live forever

This saddened me a lot...I liked her... and now she's at peace ... God rest her .... I feel for the Queen now, having lost both her sister and mother in a matter of weeks..

Yup, sad news. It's the Queen who my thoughts and sympathy most lie losing her closest family in weeks
But, she's had a fantastic life - 101!! And also, she died peacefully, with her family which is the best way to go.

She saw a century, perhaps not the finest of centuries, but one she served magnificently and honorably, throughout which she was devoted to her country, her duties and her family. To have gone peacefully in her sleep, after such a life, is as much as anyone could hope for.

Secondly, the vast majority of the royal households expenses would be incurred by the head of state whether they were a monarch or a president (or otherwise by the state itself), eg cost of civil duties and maintenance of property.
Two simple points; firstly the Royal household's costs are paid by the nation in exchange for the income from the croen estate being paid to the Exchequer. The former was about £38M in 99/00 and £34M in 00/01, the latter about £133M in 99/00 and £148M in 00/01. The maths isn't tricky, and shows a £100M profit at the simplest level.
