God bless the old girl, she had a good innings, and our thoughts should be with the queen, she has after all lost her sister and her mother within the space of 2 months, put yourself in that position, its somewhere you do not wanna go......

The day of the funeral will be a national mourning day but whether that turns into a national public holiday ..... i doubt it, especially in my trade!

Certainly a saddening time for the royal family as it loses first Princess Margaret who knew how to bend the rules and have a good time and the Queen Mother who was well respected by a variety of ages, and possibly the only link keeping a lot of the other royals in line.

I do feel especially for Princess Margaret's children and the Queen for their double loss but also the tolls it will take on Princes William and Harry who will probably miss another motherly link within the royal family.

It appears that the date for the funeral is now Tuesday 9th April, I wouldn't imagine the date would be a public holiday as it isn't a state funeral which I would assume is only worthy of a public holiday.

Maybe not, but a family bereavement is always hard for one reason or another. Just because you don't really care about it shouldn't mean that we should be disrespectful in complaining about the media attention this has attracted?

You may or may not have noticed that I haven't posted in this thread up until now. That was intentional! I may agree with you, but I chose not to voice that opinion because I feel that if nothing else, the family left behind deserves that respect.

I agree, The Queen Mother must have touched many lives during her many years in the public eye. At 101 its an outstanding age and many people have grown up watching her.

As reflected by the stream of well-wishers who queued up at royal palaces to sign books of condolence and lay bouquets of flowers.

She obviously meant more than a shrug to a lot of people.

Something I read today that made me smile. A tribute left outside St James's palace by an American tourist ...

A bottle of Beefeater Dry Gin with a card reading "To the Dear Old Queen Mom, flowers are very nice but at sad times like this we all need a stiff drink! Send our best greetings to Princess Di - and John and George. So long!!"
