My Review in the paper!: Uncle Fester&Nerve
I just found out that a review i wrote about a gig i went to on Friday, my mum sent into the the local Blackpool Gazette and they're gonna print it tomorrow - my work's gonna be published
So i thought, i'd post the unbridged version here for you all.
But first, a little background info.
Uncle Fester are a local band, who are good friends with Nerve. Both bands are really nice people. Lytham, is a town very close to me where the average age is about 160 and the younger population are only really into dance music
So, Enjoy and hope it doesn't
N.B. The dude at the paper said that it was a little repetitive but i did write it after the gig at midnight
It was difficult to decide which band was supporting which. Uncle Fester were first up but also seem to have a lot more support from the audience and to put it bluntly, they rocked the house down. Their style could be classed as "old punk" with both the singer and drummer looking uncannily like Sid Vicious from the Sex Pistols. But it was the music that showed their old punk style with highly infectious tracks like "Gasoline" and some impressive covers of "Jean Genie" and "Chinese Rocks." The singer was captivating and gave an amazing performance on their finale "Idiot" - a song that could teach new punk-pop a thing or two about what punk is really like. Now, although they generally play punk, some songs bordered on metal which meant the set performed had a good balance of different varieties of music.
It's a comforting thought to know that the original punk ethos has not been lost in a void and Uncle Fester are keeping it very much alive.
Unfortunately, many people left at this point, which is their own loss because they missed an extraordinary band. NerveÂ’s music had a slightly different style to Uncle Fester and they played more punk rock songs. They could really make it big if given the chance, with catchy songs like "Porno Star" and some fantastic guitar riffs were included in the melodies. Nerve are heavier than punk-pop artists Green Day and Blink 182, which they have often been compared to but are much better live than the latter and are more musical. One highlight of their performance was "Tainted Love" which unfortunately was totally ignored by an unresponsive audience. A brilliant punk cover and probably one of the best covers of this song I've heard - and would put Marilyn Manson to shame!
It was a fantastic gig and a brilliant line up with a band to suit every punk fanÂ’s taste. Both bands really are worth seeing or even just listening to if only just to make people realise what is going unnoticed. It is such a shame that Lytham does not appreciate such talent.
Voila!
