I personally think Nirvana sucked like a great big sucky thing. but, I'm greatful for the band's existance because I think Dave Grohl is one of the best at rock that there is today.

Foos are the better band, they might not have started any revolutions in rock music, but they're a lot more fun to listen to.

I was into Nirvana before Nevermind came out, and will always care more about them than the Foo Fighters, despite the fact the new album kicks bottom and is by far the best they've done (thanks to a little inspiration from QOTSA).

While I'm not glad Kurt blew his head off, I am glad Nirvana are not around today. There are very few bands who should continue beyond five years of existance. Most of them become a mockery of their former selves - The Rolling Stones are the classic example. This way Nirvana never got to sell out or get in touch with their prog rock true selves or whatever would have happened if they were around today.

I agree with what Jayjay said ( I think ). While it was awful the way Kurt bowed out, I'm glad my kids are gonna know him as he was and not as a dried up sad old man (think fat Elvis). I love the Foos and I'm glad that people are getting a chance to hear how fantastic Dave Grohl is but Nirvana will *always* be a far superior band. IMO Kurt Cobain was one of a kind and never can or will be replaced and I'm sort of glad of that

I never liked Nirvana all that much. I thought they had a few classic songs, and 'Unplugged in New York' is great, but that's about it.

As for whether they'd still be around if Kurt was alive, I'd guess not. They just always seemed very volatile.

Dave Grohl seems quite happy playing drums - as Jayjay mentioned, he played on the last Queens of the Stone Age album. And he is a great drummer, but I'm glad he decided to do something else, cos he's also a pretty good songwriter and frontman too.

Glad to know I was not the only one having a little wee dram last night I have to correct my BIG mistake, and say Grohl, not Krohl as afore mentioned. What on earth I was thinking, I'll never know But I didn't want to sneakily edit it, and hope no-body noticed with out owning up Guilty as charged.

I love the Foo Fighters, they are so great, I love their music - and I must admit I worship Dave Grohl!
Apart from Smells Like Teen Spirit I can't really say I'm keen on any Nirvana songs.

Well as someone who was a huge Nirvana fan at the time, I can catagorically state that the Foo Fighters ROCK and Dave Grohl is God.

The Colour and the Shape is one of my all time favourite albums, and can remember joking (in an unfunny way) at the time with a mate about how Kurt had done us all a favour as he'd been holding Dave back!

There's some Nirvana interview footage around from circa '93 that is often repeated on the MTV channels, where they talk about how they don't want to keep going until they're crap, it's quite amusing to see Dave saying something like "I can't see myself climbing up on stage every night in ten years time."

it might just be me, but i think that the very first (self titled) foo fighters album sounds very much like a sort of cheapish nirvana CD. I can't quite put my finger on it, but i'm guessing that back then grohl had no real inspiration of his own, so therefore the songs ended up sounding quite similar to the nirvana ones.

However, this is the worst of the foo fighters albums (followed by one by one, with the colour and the shape and there is nothing left to lose at joint first), not sure if it's because it does sound like nirvana or not but it is the worst (in my personal opinion).

Also, new video sucks, sucks bad style, real bad style, after the one by one video, they needed something so much mnore special to top it, but they failed, damned shame. I'm a massive fan, i went to see them in manchester, prolly one of the best nights of my life, was superb, still, the new album is not much cop.

Still better than nirvana though, who, as ok as some of the songs are, just do not seem to have enough energy for me, i can listen to them for a while but, like the beatles, i do not see what the massive fuss about them was. If it was not them who had "changed music" someone else would just as easily have taken their place.
