Recommendations
What album would you recommend everybody to listen to at least once. Whether they love it, hate it, never heard of it, or maybe not bothered with because they thought they wouldn't like it.
I would recommend 'Brave' by Marillion. It's a concept album, very clever with some really powerful songs.

This changes nearly every month for me, but at the moment it would be Uncle Fester - Total Sonic Mayhem
I'd want all these people who are only into what i call the "trendy-punk" (apologies if i offend someone, but it's my view
) like Sum 41 etc to realise what sort of talent there is in the underground punk scene. I wrote a review and said they could teach the new "pop-punks" a thing or two about real punk. I sometimes despair because i see all this talent in the underground scene which is almost unnoticed but there's loads of trash which is popular - then again, what's trash to me isn't to someone else - cause someone must buy it

Okay, hun, but if we all got into 'underground punk' it would become mainstream and everyone would be into it and you would no longer like it because it wouldn't be just 'yours' or 'underground' anymore. Isn't that what you once said in another thread, particulalrly about Bowling For Soup?
And weren't you also mad about Wheatus for a while as well? And Blink 182? Both of whom have had Top 40 singles. Aren't they mainstream? Or have you gone off them?

As for Wheatus - Phil (drummer dude with bongo's eytc.) left and i don't think they are as good anymore as they used to be - he was an essential part of the band.
Blink 182 have been in my bad books for a while now due to them last november rescheduykling their tour because of september 11th as they were scared to fly - yet they weren't scared to fly to Germnay for the MTV awards but couldn't see their fans in UK. and then they cancelled all together

Camino Palmero by 'The Calling' There is not a bad song on this album, I have never found this before, even with some Bon Jovi albums i've found a weak track but nothing on this one.
It truly is a great album which I never stop playing (EW can back that up) Alex and Aaron are definatly a great songwriting pair!

Just to be a little picky but there's a difference between a band becoming popular and successful and a band that does that but changes their music/attitude etc once that happens.

I agree with you about getting music from the underground and how people don't appreciate it, I don't go to big gigs much, I stay local and go to local rock/punk clubs where local bands play, and I know everyone and people in the band. Though I don't listen to it because no one else does and I want to be different from the "pop punks" I just listen it to because I like it

I would have to say Goldfingers 'Open Your eyes' Some excellent feel good music. I got it yesterday and am very impressed with it.

And FerretGirl, what do you meen by 'real' punk, as someone who likes the Jam, the Clash and the Sex Pistols, as well as stuff like Blink and the occaisional Sum41 and BFS track I'd have to say that it's all 'real', whether ir's succesful or not doesn't mean anything, for example the aformentioned album by Marvin Aday (A.K.A MeatLoaf) is the third best selling album ever, does that mean it isn't real, does that mean that months of trying to get a contract because the producers didn't like the album, an attemtive suicide, manic deppresion and a kicking from the critics is all just a plan to sell out, sorry if I offend but really it's simple - if you like a track then listen to it, if you don't then "just don't listen to it". Personally I have a large objection to manufactured bands but I still like Sound of the Underground by Girls Aloud and as such I listen to it.

)Perhaps using the word real was not the best choice of words (then again, i had been revising most of the day and my brain was starting to turn to mush!) what i really meant was "original punk" the sound of the first punks like the damned, dead kennedys etc. their type of style, for me, is "original punk". i think one of the reasons why i used "real punk" is because i recall speaking to one of the members of Uncle Fester and that is what they described themselves and compared their music to sex pistols and generation x, then used it in my review to describe them
